他们拔营起行的时候，日间总有耶和华的云彩在他们上头。

白日他用云彩，夜间他用火光引导他们。

你还是因着你丰盛的怜悯，没有把他们撇弃在旷野；日间云柱没有离开他们，仍然在路上引导他们；夜间火柱也没有离开他们，还是光照他们要行的路。

在以色列营前行走的神的使者，转到他们后面去；云柱也从他们前面转过去，立在他们后面。云柱来到埃及营和以色列营中间；云柱一边是黑暗的，一边却光照着黑夜。这样整夜彼此都不能接近。摩西向海伸手，耶和华就用极强的东风，一夜之间使海水退去；他使海变成干地，海水也分开了。以色列人下到海中走干地，水在他们的左右作了墙垣。埃及人追赶过来，法老所有的马匹、马车和马兵，都跟着以色列人下到海中去。到了晨更的时候，耶和华透过云柱火柱向下观看埃及人的军兵，并且使埃及人的军兵大起混乱。

摩西进会幕的时候，就有云柱降下来，停在会幕门口上面；耶和华就与摩西谈话。全体的人民看见了云柱停在会幕门口上面，就都起来，各人在自己帐幕的门口下拜。

当时，有云彩遮盖会幕，耶和华的荣耀充满了帐幕。摩西不能进入会幕，因为云彩停在会幕上面，并且耶和华的荣耀充满着帐幕。在以色列人所有的旅程中是这样的：每逢云彩从帐幕收上去的时候，他们就起程；云彩若是不收上去，他们就不起程，直到云彩收上去的日子为止。因为以色列人所有的旅程中，日间有耶和华的云彩在帐幕上，夜间云中有火，显在以色列全家的眼前。

然后，耶和华必在锡安全山之上，并会众之上，在日间创造云和烟，夜间创造有火焰的光亮，因为在一切荣耀之上，必有遮盖。也必有亭子，日间可以使人得阴凉、避炎热，也可以作避难时藏身之所，或作躲避狂风暴雨之处。
