安放约柜的圣幕支起来那天，云彩遮盖了它。当晚，云彩整夜像火焰一般。之后，每天如此：白天云彩遮盖圣幕，晚上云彩像火。云彩什么时候从圣幕上升起，以色列人就启行；云彩在哪里停下来，以色列人就在哪里安营。他们无论启行还是安营，都遵照耶和华的吩咐。云彩在圣幕上停留多久，他们就安营多久。有时云彩在圣幕上停留多日，他们就遵照耶和华的吩咐安营多日。有时云彩在圣幕上只停留几天，他们就遵照耶和华的吩咐只安营几天。随后再照耶和华的吩咐启行。有时云彩整夜停留在圣幕上，到早晨才升起，他们就早晨才启行。不管白天黑夜，云彩一升起，他们就启行。不管是两天、一个月或是一年，只要云彩停留在圣幕上，以色列人就安营不动；云彩一升起，他们就启行。他们遵照耶和华的吩咐安营，也遵照耶和华的吩咐启行。他们遵行耶和华借摩西吩咐的话。

他们拔营前行的时候，白天总有耶和华的云彩在他们上面。

祂白天以云柱带领他们，晚上用火柱引导他们。

你还是对他们大施怜悯，没有在旷野离弃他们。白天，云柱没有离开他们，仍然引导他们前行；夜间，火柱仍然照亮他们当走的路。

这时，在以色列人前面领路的上帝的天使，转到百姓后面，云柱也随着移到后面立住。云柱停在埃及军队和以色列人的中间，埃及军队这边一片黑暗，以色列人那边却有光，双方整夜都无法接近对方。摩西向海伸出手，耶和华便整夜用强劲的东风吹退海水，将海底变成干地。海水分开后，以色列人踏着干地走入海中，海水如两道墙立在他们左右。法老的军兵车马紧追不舍，都跟着下到海中。到了破晓时分，耶和华从云柱火柱中俯视埃及军队，扰乱他们的队伍。

摩西进入会幕后，便有云柱降下来，停在会幕门口，耶和华就跟摩西说话。每当百姓看见这景象，他们都站在自己的帐篷门口敬拜耶和华。

那时，有云彩遮盖会幕，耶和华的荣光充满了圣幕。摩西不能进会幕，因为云彩停在上面，耶和华的荣光充满了圣幕。一路上，云彩从圣幕升起，他们就出发。云彩不升起，他们就不出发，一直等到云彩升起。一路上，白天有耶和华的云彩停留在圣幕上面，夜间云中有火光为以色列百姓照明。

耶和华必在日间用烟云遮蔽整个锡安山和那里的会众，在夜间用火光照亮他们。祂的荣耀必遮盖一切，是白日避暑的亭子，是躲避狂风暴雨的避难所和藏身处。
