Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said,“ God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”

一天，約瑟對他的弟兄們說：「我快要死了，但上帝必看顧你們，帶你們離開這裡，回到祂起誓應許給亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的地方。」約瑟要以色列的子孫發誓把他的骸骨帶回迦南，又說：「上帝必看顧你們。」

以色列人把從埃及帶出來的約瑟的骸骨葬在示劍，在從前雅各用一百塊銀子向哈抹的子孫買的那塊地裡。哈抹是示劍的父親。後來那塊地成了約瑟子孫的產業。

後來他們的遺體被帶回示劍，安葬在亞伯拉罕買自哈抹子孫的墓地裡。

百姓相信了。以色列人聽見耶和華眷顧他們、看到了他們的苦難，都俯伏敬拜祂。

親戚和鄰居聽見主向她大施憐憫，都和她一同歡樂。

以色列對約瑟說：「我快死了，但上帝必與你們同在，帶你們回到你們祖先的土地。

在場的人驚懼萬分，把榮耀歸給上帝，說：「我們中間出了一位大先知！」又說：「上帝眷顧了祂的百姓！」
