That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast.

“ Do not include anything made with yeast when you offer me the blood of a sacrifice. You must not keep any of the meat from the sacrifice of the Passover Feast until morning.

Cook the animal and eat it. Do it at the place the Lord your God will choose. Then in the morning return to your tents.

Then Moses said to the people,“ Remember this day. It’s the day you came out of Egypt. That’s the land where you were slaves. The Lord used his mighty hand to bring you out of Egypt. Don’t eat anything with yeast in it.

Eat bread made without yeast during those seven days. Nothing with yeast in it should be found among you. No yeast should be seen anywhere inside your borders.

They must celebrate it on the 14th day of the second month. They must do so when the sun goes down. They must eat the lamb together with bread made without yeast. They must eat it with bitter plants.They must not leave any of it until morning. They must not break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover Feast, they must follow all the rules.

Don’t eat the animal along with bread made with yeast. Instead, for seven days eat bread made without yeast. It’s the bread that reminds you of how much you suffered. Remember that you left Egypt in a hurry. Remember it all the days of your life. Don’t forget the day you left Egypt.Don’t keep any yeast anywhere in your land for seven days. You will sacrifice the Passover animal on the evening of the first day. Do not let any of its meat be left over until the next morning.

The people suffered because of their hard labor. The slave drivers forced them to work with bricks and mud. And they made them do all kinds of work in the fields. The Egyptians didn’t show them any pity at all. They made them work very hard.

The Lord says,“ It was my plan to crush him and cause him to suffer. I made his life an offering to pay for sin. But he will see all his children after him. In fact, he will continue to live. My plan will be brought about through him.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said,“ Take this and eat it. This is my body.”

We and the Lord were your examples. You followed us. You welcomed our message even when you were suffering terribly. You welcomed it with the joy the Holy Spirit gives.

Then the disciples understood that Jesus was not telling them to watch out for the yeast used in bread. He was warning them against what the Pharisees and Sadducees taught.

“ I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on David’s family line. I will also send it on those who live in Jerusalem. They will look to me. I am the one they have pierced. They will mourn over me as someone mourns over an only child who has died. They will be full of sorrow over me. Their sorrow will be just like someone’s sorrow over an oldest son.

You should know that“ just a little yeast works its way through the whole batch of dough.”

“ Do not include anything made with yeast when you offer me the blood of a sacrifice.“ Suppose the fat from sacrifices is left over from my feasts. Then do not keep it until morning.

Bake some bread with yeast. Burn it as a thank offering. Brag about the offerings you freely give. This is what you Israelites love to do,” announces the Lord and King.

My strength is like water that is poured out on the ground. I feel as if my bones aren’t connected. My heart has turned to wax. It has melted away inside me.

Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves. They said,“ How can this man give us his body to eat?”Jesus said to them,“ What I’m about to tell you is true. You must eat the Son of Man’s body and drink his blood. If you don’t, you have no life in you.Anyone who eats my body and drinks my blood has eternal life. I will raise them up on the last day.My body is real food. My blood is real drink.Anyone who eats my body and drinks my blood remains in me. And I remain in them.The living Father sent me, and I live because of him. In the same way, those who feed on me will live because of me.

Your bragging is not good. It is like yeast. Don’t you know that just a little yeast makes the whole batch of dough rise?Get rid of the old yeast. Then you can be like a new batch of dough without yeast. That is what you really are. That’s because Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been offered up for us.So let us keep the Feast, but not with the old bread made with yeast. The yeast I’m talking about is hatred and evil. Let us keep the Feast with bread made without yeast. Let us keep it with bread that is honesty and truth.
