Scripture does not say,“ and to the descendants,” referring to many, but“ and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to invalidate the promise.

The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors and made the people great during their stay as foreigners in the country of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it.

Now the LORD said to Abram,“ Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father’s household to the land that I will show you.Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.I will bless those who bless you, but the one who treats you lightly I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another by your name.”
