At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.

At midnight the Lord struck down every oldest son in Egypt. He killed the oldest son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne. He killed all the oldest sons of prisoners. He also killed all the male animals born first to their mothers among the livestock.

At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.

摩西說：「耶和華說，『今晚半夜，我要走遍埃及。埃及境內，從坐王位的法老的長子到推磨的女奴的長子，以及所有頭生的牲畜，都必死亡。

以色列人所有的長子和頭生的牲畜都屬於我。我擊殺埃及人所有的長子和頭生的牲畜那天，已把以色列人所有的長子和頭生的牲畜都分別出來，使之聖潔，歸給我。

當時埃及人正埋葬他們的長子，耶和華擊殺了他們的長子，並藉此懲罰了他們的眾神明。

「因為那一夜我要巡遍埃及，把境內所有長子和頭生的牲畜全都殺掉，也要嚴懲埃及所有的神明。我是耶和華。

他們夜間轉瞬死去，百姓震顫，繼而消逝，權貴也被剷除，非藉人手。

當時法老硬著心不肯放我們走，所以耶和華就把埃及人的長子和頭生的牲畜全都殺了。因此，我們把所有頭生的公畜當作祭牲獻給耶和華，只把長子贖回來。』

因為所有頭生的都屬於我。我殺死埃及人所有的長子和頭生的牲畜那天，已把以色列人所有的長子和頭生的牲畜都分別出來，使之聖潔，歸給我，我是耶和華。」

錫安啊，因為我用血跟你立了約，我必將你中間被擄的人從無水之坑釋放出來。

被囚的人快得釋放了，他們不會死在牢中，也不會缺乏食物。

他憑信心守逾越節，行灑血的禮，免得那位殺長子的傷害以色列人。

因為你們已經清楚知道，將來有一天，主會突然來到，像賊在夜裡忽然出現一樣。當人們正在說一切平安穩妥的時候，災禍會像產痛臨到孕婦一樣突然臨到他們，令他們無法逃脫。

於是，他們拿住耶利米，用繩子把他縋到王子瑪基雅的蓄水池裡。那池子在護衛兵的院子裡，池中沒有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

第二天，耶和華就這樣行了，埃及的牲畜都死了，但以色列人的牲畜一頭也沒死。

他們必像囚犯一樣被聚在一起，關在牢裡，日後必受懲罰。

這裡有名字記錄在天上的眾長子的教會，有審判眾人的上帝和已達到純全的義人的靈魂，

他們便把耶利米從池中拉上來拘留在護衛兵的院子裡。
