And it shall be, when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand Jehovah brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that Jehovah slew all the first- born in the land of Egypt, both the first- born of man, and the first- born of beast: therefore I sacrifice to Jehovah all that openeth the womb, being males; but all the first- born of my sons I redeem.

Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and he will show thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.

One generation shall laud thy works to another, And shall declare thy mighty acts.

that this may be a sign among you, that, when your children ask in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?then ye shall say unto them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done.For he established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which he commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;That the generation to come might know them, even the children that should be born; Who should arise and tell them to their children,

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord.

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: The father to the children shall make known thy truth.

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.For Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were passed over;that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Jehovah, that it is mighty; that ye may fear Jehovah your God for ever.

And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying, It is because of that which Jehovah did for me when I came forth out of Egypt.And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the law of Jehovah may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath Jehovah brought thee out of Egypt.

and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, departed not from before the people.
