有蝗蟲從煙裡飛出來，落到地上，有地上蠍子的能力賜給牠們。牠們得到命令，不得毀壞地上的青草、樹木和其他植物，只傷害額上沒有上帝印記的人，但不可殺死他們，只折磨他們五個月。那種折磨就像被蠍子蟄到一樣。那時候，人求死，卻求不到；想死，死卻躲避他們。那些蝗蟲好像預備出征的戰馬一樣，頭上好像戴了金冠，面孔好像人臉，

長老們啊，請聽我說！地上的所有居民啊，要留心聽！在你們或你們祖先的時代可曾發生過這樣的事？要把這事告訴你們的子子孫孫，傳到世世代代！蝗蟲吃剩的，蝻子來吃；蝻子吃剩的，蚱蜢來吃；蚱蜢吃剩的，螞蚱來吃。

「蝗蟲要吃光你們的樹木和地上的出產。

牠們鋪天蓋地，要吃光冰雹過後田間所剩的，包括一切樹木。你的王宮及臣僕和所有埃及人的房屋都要佈滿蝗蟲，這是你祖祖輩輩從未見過的蝗災。』」摩西說完，便轉身離開法老。

那時整個埃及必充滿悲慘的哭號聲，慘況空前絕後。

「如果國中有饑荒、瘟疫、旱災、黴病、蝗災、蟲災，或是城邑被敵人圍困，無論遭遇什麼災禍疾病，

你們要在錫安吹響號角，在我的聖山上發出警訊，地上的居民都要戰抖，因為耶和華的日子將要來臨，已經近了。那將是烏雲密佈、天昏地暗的日子。來了一支空前絕後、強盛無比的蝗蟲大軍，牠們像曙光一樣佈滿山頭。牠們的前隊如火燎原，後隊如熊熊烈焰。牠們未到以前，大地美得像伊甸園；牠們過去之後，大地變成一片荒場，地上的一切都逃不過這一場浩劫。牠們的形狀像馬，快速奔馳如戰馬，在山嶺上跳躍奔騰，如隆隆戰車，好像烈火吞噬乾草的聲音，又如大軍擺開陣式準備打仗。牠們一來，百姓就驚慌失措，面如死灰。牠們快速奔跑像勇士，攀登城牆如戰士，有條不紊地前進。隊伍整齊，各行其道，勢如破竹，無堅不摧。牠們衝向城邑，躥上城牆，爬進房屋，如盜賊般破窗而入。所到之處，天搖地動，日月昏暗，星辰無光。耶和華向祂的軍隊發號施令，祂的隊伍不計其數，執行祂命令的是一支勁旅。耶和華的日子偉大而可畏，誰能承受得住呢？

祂一發聲，就飛來無數蝗蟲和螞蚱，吃盡他們土地上的植物，吃盡他們田間的出產。
