“ This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations!What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations.I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!

“ As the time drew near when God would fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt greatly increased.But then a new king came to the throne of Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph.

Then God said,“ Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.”

And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted!

And the Lord multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies.

I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.

That night the people of Israel left Rameses and started for Succoth. There were about 600,000 men, plus all the women and children.

Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him,“ Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”

I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

the Angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. May they preserve my name and the names of Abraham and Isaac. And may their descendants multiply greatly throughout the earth.”
