    亞哈隨魯王問王后以斯帖說:『那敢存心這樣行的是誰?這人在哪裏呢?』以斯帖說:『敵人、仇敵、就是哈曼這個壞人!』哈曼在王和王后面前立即驚惶失措。王怒氣上衝,就從酒席間起來,往王宮花園去;哈曼見王已經決定要加罪於他,就仍呆着,求王后以斯帖救他的命。王從王宮花園回到酒席大廳;這時哈曼早已伏在以斯帖所靠的榻上;於是王說:『他竟敢在宮內、在我面前污辱王后麼?』這話一出王口,人就把哈曼的臉蒙上。在王面前的太監中有一個叫哈波拿的說:『啊,哈曼為那說忠義話來救王的末底改所立那五十肘高的示眾木架現在正立在哈曼家裏呢。』王說:『把哈曼掛在那上頭。』於是人將哈曼掛在他為末底改所豫備的示眾木架上;王的烈怒這才消熄。那一天亞哈隨魯王把猶大人的敵人哈曼的家產賜給以斯帖。末底改也來到王面前,因為以斯帖已經把末底改是她的甚麼親人告訴了王。王便脫下他自己的打印戒指、就是他從哈曼所退回的,給了末底改;以斯帖就派末底改管理哈曼的家產。以斯帖又在王面前說話;她俯伏在王腳前,流淚向王懇求,請王破壞亞甲族哈曼的毒計、和他所計畫要害猶大人的陰謀。王向以斯帖伸出了金杖;以斯帖就起來,站在王前,說:『王若以為好,我若在王面前蒙恩寵,這事在王面前若看為對,我在王眼中若得了王的喜悅,就請寫下勅令、取消亞甲族哈米大他的兒子哈曼所計謀的詔書,就是他所寫下來要除滅在王各省的猶大人的。因為我怎忍得見我本族之民受害呢?我怎忍得見我的親族被滅盡呢?』亞哈隨魯王對王后以斯帖和猶大人末底改說:『因為哈曼要下手害猶大人,你就看吧,我已將哈曼的家產賜給以斯帖,人也將哈曼掛在示眾木架上了。現在你們可以照你們所看為好的奉王的名對猶大人的事寫下勅令,用王的打印戒指蓋上了印;因為奉王的名所寫、用王的打印戒指蓋上了印的勅令、是沒有人能取消的。』當那時候、三月、就是西彎月、二十三日、王的書記們被召了來,照末底改一切所吩咐的,對猶大人的事寫下了勅令、給眾藩臣,給各省巡撫和首長,從印度到古實一百二十七省,一省一省用自己的文字,一族一族用自己的方言,又給猶大人、用他們的文字和方言。末底改奉亞哈隨魯王的名來寫,又用王的打印戒指蓋上了印;那些文書是由跑文書的人經手騎上御養的馬、國事用的快馬、傳送的。文書中王准一省一省的猶大人在一日之間、在十二月、就是亞達月、十三日、都可以聚集,站起來保護自己的性命,將任何族任何省分要攻擊他們、的一切軍兵、連小孩和婦女、全都消滅、屠殺滅盡,並且奪取他們的資財作為掠物。
