Mordecai told the Jews to celebrate the time when they got rest from their enemies. That was the month when their sadness was turned into joy. It was when their weeping turned into a day for celebrating. He wrote the letters to celebrate those days as times of joy. He wanted the people to enjoy good food. He told them to give presents of food to one another. He also wanted them to give gifts to people who were poor.

惟以在內者施濟、則於爾無不潔矣、○

正月十三日、遂召王之繕寫、從哈曼所命書詔、依各州文字、各族方言、繕以御名、鈐以王之指環、普告王臣、各州方伯、各族民長、遣郵傳詔各州、使於十二月、即亞達月十三日、一日之間、將猶大人、無論老幼、嬰孩婦女、盡行殺戮翦滅、俾其隕亡、取其貨財、以為己有、

凡信者會同、諸物與共、鬻其物產、各依所需、與眾分之、日一厥心恆在於殿、又在家擘餅、以欣以誠而食、

我心當頌美耶和華、勿忘其恩澤兮、

摩西語民曰、是日耶和華以其手力、導爾出埃及、脫於奴隸之室、故當誌之、毋食有酵餅、是日乃亞筆月、即爾出時、迨耶和華導爾入迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、希未人、耶布斯人之境、即其誓於爾祖、賜爾流乳與蜜之地、當於是月守此禮、七日間、當食無酵餅、至七日、乃耶和華之節期、斯七日、必食無酵餅、酵餅與酵、毋得見於爾之全境、其時當告汝子云、是禮也、乃誌出埃及時、耶和華為我所行者、

哀慟者福矣、以其將受慰也、

又曰、往哉、食肥飲甘、無者頒之、此乃我主之聖日、毋憂戚、因耶和華而樂、是為爾之能力、利未人肅眾曰、今乃聖日、當靜默、毋憂戚、民往飲食、亦頒餚饌、懽然喜樂、因明所宣之言也、○

是日也、爾將曰、耶和華歟、我稱謝爾、昔爾怒我、今怒已息、且慰藉我、上帝為我之拯救、我恃之而無恐、蓋主耶和華、為我能力、為我歌頌、為我之拯救也、
