Haman’s wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him,“ Get a pole. In the morning, ask the king to have Mordecai put to death. Have the pole stuck through his body. Set it up at a place where it will be 75 feet above the ground. Everyone will be able to see it there. Then go to the feast with the king. Have a good time.” Haman was delighted with that suggestion. So he got the pole ready.

Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him,“ Let a gallows fifty cubits high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged upon it. Then go joyfully with the king to the feast.” This idea pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.

So Haman’s wife, Zeresh, and all his friends suggested,“ Set up a sharpened pole that stands seventy five feet tall, and in the morning ask the king to impale Mordecai on it. When this is done, you can go on your merry way to the banquet with the king.” This pleased Haman, and he ordered the pole set up.

His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him,“ Have them build a gallows seventy-five feet tall. Ask the king in the morning to hang Mordecai on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.” The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows constructed.

And the king said, Who[ is] in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy,[ and] to slay such as be of upright conversation.

The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise,[ and] eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.

He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch[ which] he made.His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

But Amnon had a friend, whose name[ was] Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab[ was] a very subtil man.And he said unto him, Why[ art] thou,[ being] the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see[ it], and eat[ it] at her hand.

But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The heathen are sunk down in the pit[ that] they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

And they lay wait for their[ own] blood; they lurk privily for their[ own] lives.

Their feet[ are] swift to shed blood:

And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws[ are] diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it[ is] not for the king’s profit to suffer them.If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring[ it] into the king’s treasuries.And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.And the king said unto Haman, The silver[ is] given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that[ were] over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and[ to] every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day,[ even] upon the thirteenth[ day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and[ to take] the spoil of them for a prey.The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
