Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king’s damage.

For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?

The king’s heart[ is] in the hand of the LORD,[ as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres,[ lieth] waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.

The wrath of a king[ is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.In the light of the king’s countenance[ is] life; and his favour[ is] as a cloud of the latter rain.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
