“ Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

“ Go. Gather together all the Jews who are in Susa. And fast for my benefit. Don’t eat or drink anything for three days. Don’t do it night or day. I and my attendants will fast just as you do. Then I’ll go to the king. I’ll do it even though it’s against the law. And if I have to die, I’ll die.”

“ Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”

但我並不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為神恩惠的福音作見證。

於是約沙法害怕起來，定意要尋求耶和華，就在猶大全地宣告禁食。

耶和華說：“現在雖然如此，你們仍要全心全意，以禁食、哭泣、哀號，歸向我。”你們要撕裂你們的心腸，不要撕裂你們的衣服。並要歸向耶和華你們的神，因為他有恩典有憐憫，不輕易發怒，並且有豐盛的慈愛，隨時轉意不降災禍。有誰知道或許他會轉意，並且施慈愛，留下餘福，就是留下獻給耶和華你們的神的素祭和奠祭。你們要在錫安吹號角，把禁食的日子分別為聖，召開嚴肅會。你們要召集民眾，使會眾分別為聖；招聚老人，聚集孩童，和在懷中吃奶的嬰孩；讓新郎從新房出來，新婦從內室出來。讓事奉耶和華的祭司在聖殿的廊子和祭壇之間哭泣，讓他們說：“耶和華啊！求你憐恤你的子民。不要使你的產業受羞辱，使他們在列國中成為笑談。為甚麼容人在萬民中譏笑說：‘他們的神在哪裡呢？’”

凡是想救自己生命的，必喪掉生命；但為我犧牲自己生命的，必救了生命。

我揀選了他﹙“揀選”直譯是“認識”。﹚，是要他吩咐子孫，和他的家屬，遵守我耶和華的道，秉公行義，好叫我耶和華應許亞伯拉罕的話都可實現。”

如果你們認為事奉耶和華不好，那麼今日你們就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：是你們列祖在大河那邊事奉的神呢，還是你們現在所住亞摩利人之地的神呢？至於我和我家，我們必事奉耶和華。”

約拿進城，走了一天，就宣告說：“再過四十天，尼尼微就要毀滅了。”尼尼微人信了（“信了”或譯：“信服”）神，就宣告禁食，從大到小，都穿上麻衣。這事傳到尼尼微王那裡，他就起來，離開寶座，脫去王袍，披上麻衣，坐在爐灰中。他又傳諭全尼尼微，說：“王和大臣有令：‘人、畜、牛、羊，都不准嘗甚麼，不准吃，也不准喝。不論人畜，都要披上麻衣；各人要懇切呼求神，悔改，離開惡行，摒棄手中的強暴。或者神回心轉意，不發烈怒，使我們不致滅亡。’”

你們要把禁食的日子分別為聖，召開嚴肅會，聚集眾長老和國中所有的居民，到你們的神耶和華的殿裡，向耶和華呼求。哀哉那日！因為耶和華的日子臨近了；那日來到，好像毀滅從全能者臨到一樣。

願全能的神使那人憐憫你們，給你們釋放你們那個兄弟和便雅憫。至於我，如果要喪失兒子，就喪失了吧。”

第三天，以斯帖穿上朝服，站在王宮的內院，對著王殿；王在殿裡坐在王位上，對著殿門。

你要剛強；為了我們的人民和我們神的眾城鎮，我們要剛強！願耶和華成全他看為美的事。”

他們為了我的性命，置生死於度外，不但我感激他們，連外族的眾教會也感激他們。

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，穿上麻布。

因他為了基督的工作，冒著生命的危險，差一點喪了命，為的是要補滿你們服事我不足的地方。

他三天都不能看見甚麼，不吃也不喝。

天快亮的時候，保羅勸大家吃飯，說：“你們一直不吃東西，挨餓苦候，到今天已經十四天了！

約拿怎樣三日三夜在大魚的腹中，人子也要照樣三日三夜在地裡。

保羅卻回答：“你們為甚麼哭，使我心碎呢？我為主耶穌的名，不但被捆綁，就算死在耶路撒冷我也都準備好了。”

他冒著生命的危險擊殺了那非利士人，耶和華為以色列人施行了大拯救，那時你看見了，也很歡喜。現在你為甚麼要犯罪，無緣無故殺死大衛，流無辜人的血呢？”

和他說話的天使走了之後，他就叫了兩個家僕和侍候他的一個虔誠的士兵來，
