“ Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

“ Go. Gather together all the Jews who are in Susa. And fast for my benefit. Don’t eat or drink anything for three days. Don’t do it night or day. I and my attendants will fast just as you do. Then I’ll go to the king. I’ll do it even though it’s against the law. And if I have to die, I’ll die.”

“ Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”

不過哪怕是犧牲性命，我也在所不辭，，只盼望我能跑完當跑的路程，完成主耶穌交託給我的使命，為上帝充滿恩典的福音做見證。

約沙法很害怕，決定尋求耶和華，在整個猶大宣告禁食。

耶和華說：「現在，你們要禁食、哭泣、哀號，全心回轉歸向我。」你們要撕心般地悔改，而不是撕裂衣服。歸向你們的上帝耶和華吧，因為祂有恩典和憐憫，不輕易發怒，有無限的慈愛，不忍心降災禍。誰知道呢？或許祂轉念心生憐憫，給你們留下祝福，使你們可以再次向你們的上帝耶和華獻上素祭和奠祭。要在錫安山吹響號角，宣佈禁食的日子，舉行莊嚴的聚會。要招聚老人，聚集孩童，包括吃奶的嬰兒；要吩咐新郎出洞房、新娘出內室；要召集全體人民，讓他們潔淨自己。讓事奉耶和華的祭司站在聖殿門廊和祭壇中間，哭泣懇求說：「耶和華啊，求你顧惜你的子民，不要讓外族人侮辱、譏笑你的產業說，『你們的上帝在哪裡呢？』」

因為想救自己生命的，必失去生命；但為了我而失去生命的，必得到生命。

我揀選了他，是要他教導自己的子孫後代持守我的道、秉公行義。這樣，我必實現對他的應許。」

如果你們不願意事奉耶和華，今天就選擇你們的神明吧，或大河那邊你們祖先事奉的神明，或你們這裡亞摩利人的神明。至於我和我全家，我們必事奉耶和華。」

約拿進城走了一天，宣告說：「再過四十天尼尼微就要毀滅了！」尼尼微城的人相信了上帝的話，便宣告禁食，所有的人，無論大小貴賤都換上麻衣。尼尼微王聽到這消息後，便走下寶座，脫下王袍，披上麻衣，坐在爐灰中。王又向全城頒佈命令，說：「王和大臣有令，所有的人都必須禁食，牛羊牲畜都不許吃草也不許喝水。人和牲畜都必須披上麻衣，眾人要向上帝懇切呼求，改邪歸正，停止作惡。上帝或許會施憐憫，收回烈怒，使我們不致滅亡，也未可知。」

你們要定一個禁食的日子，舉行莊嚴的聚會，召集全國的長老和人民，到你們的上帝耶和華的殿中，向耶和華呼求。太可怕了！耶和華的日子近了，那是全能者施行毀滅的日子。

願全能的上帝叫那人憐憫你們，讓西緬和便雅憫回來。我若喪子就喪子吧！」

第三天，以斯帖身穿朝服進入王宮內院，面對大殿站立，王在殿裡正面朝宮門坐在寶座上。

我們要剛強，為我們的人民和我們上帝的城邑而奮勇作戰。願耶和華成全祂自己的旨意！」

為了救我將生死置之度外。不但我感謝他們，就是外族人的教會也感謝他們。

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。

他為了基督的工作，將生死置之度外，幾乎喪命，以彌補你們服侍我的不足之處。

一連三天，掃羅什麼也看不見，也不吃也不喝。

到了黎明時分，保羅勸大家吃東西，說：「你們提心吊膽、不思飲食已經十四天了。

約拿在大魚腹中三日三夜，人子也要在地裡三日三夜。

但保羅說：「你們為什麼這樣哭泣，令我心碎呢？我為主耶穌的名甘願受捆綁，甚至死在耶路撒冷。」

他冒著生命危險去殺非利士人，耶和華使以色列人大獲全勝，當時你看見了，非常歡喜，現在為什麼要犯罪，枉殺無辜的大衛呢？」

向他說話的天使離開後，哥尼流叫來兩個家僕和自己的一個敬虔侍衛，
