押沙龍吩咐他的僕人說：“你們注意！暗嫩酒酣耳熱的時候，我對你們說：‘擊殺暗嫩！’你們就把他殺死。不要懼怕，這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們要堅強，作勇敢的人。”

酒能使人狂放，烈酒能使人喧嘩；所有因醉酒而犯錯的，都沒有智慧。

往服喪之家，比往宴樂之家還好，因為死是人人的結局，活人要把這事放在心上。憂愁勝於嬉笑，因為面帶愁容，能使內心得著好處。智慧人的心在服喪之家，愚昧人的心在歡樂之家。

不要醉酒，醉酒能使人放蕩亂性，卻要讓聖靈充滿。應當用詩章、聖詩、靈歌，彼此呼應，口唱心和地讚美主。

約瑟拿起自己面前的食物，分給他們，但是便雅憫分得的食物，比別人多五倍。他們就與約瑟一同喝酒宴樂。

亞比該到了拿八那裡，他正在家中擺設筵席，好像帝王的筵席一樣。拿八心裡暢快，喝得爛醉如泥，所以無論大事小事亞比該都沒有告訴他，直到第二天早晨。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子才把這些事告訴他，他就嚇得魂不附體，立刻中風癱瘓了。

到了王吩咐帶所有年輕人進宮的日子，太監長就領他們到尼布甲尼撒王面前。王和他們談話，發現他們所有的人中，沒有一個比得上但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅的；他們四人就侍立在王面前。

設宴是為歡笑，酒能使人生快活，金錢能解決萬事。

王吩咐他的太監長亞施毘拿說：“你要從以色列人中，把一些王室的後裔和貴族帶進來；這些年輕人必須沒有殘疾、英俊、足智多才、有高度學習能力、明察事理，而且他們必須有能力可以在王宮裡工作。你要教他們學習迦勒底的文學和語言。”王指定每日給他們一份御用的佳餚美酒；又教養他們三年。期滿以後，他們就侍立在王面前。
