“ Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,

“ Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with a promise:

“ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

‘ Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt.’“ And all the people shall say,‘ Amen!’

And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites,“ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:‘ Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he commanded you,

Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

And many such things you do.”

“ A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say,‘ In what way have we despised Your name?’

In you they have made light of father and mother; in your midst they have oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the fatherless and the widow.
