And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.

Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us.

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,“ Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.

And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.

You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.

Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed.

They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

Those who convict the innocent by their false testimony will disappear. A similar fate awaits those who use trickery to pervert justice and who tell lies to destroy the innocent.

And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side— leaders whose decrees permit injustice?They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.

“ Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin.

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:“ I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites.I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked.

throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.

When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin.But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that.I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

No, not at all. I am saying that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don’t want you to participate with demons.You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too.

“ Wicked people rebel against the light. They refuse to acknowledge its ways or stay in its paths.The murderer rises in the early dawn to kill the poor and needy; at night he is a thief.The adulterer waits for the twilight, saying,‘ No one will see me then.’ He hides his face so no one will know him.Thieves break into houses at night and sleep in the daytime. They are not acquainted with the light.The black night is their morning. They ally themselves with the terrors of the darkness.

Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk.

Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!But the wicked are doomed, for they will get exactly what they deserve.

Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.

Mockers hate to be corrected, so they stay away from the wise.

As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents.They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

I never joined the people in their merry feasts. I sat alone because your hand was on me. I was filled with indignation at their sins.

Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.

If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.

“ If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

Let the godly strike me! It will be a kindness! If they correct me, it is soothing medicine. Don’t let me refuse it. But I pray constantly against the wicked and their deeds.

To one who listens, valid criticism is like a gold earring or other gold jewelry.

Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers.Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way. Turn away and keep moving.
