But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish,but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong.They have made God’s law their own, so they will never slip from his path.

The wicked are trapped by their own words, but the godly escape such trouble.

The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes— these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.

And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.

They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.
