Anyone who has been stealing must never steal again. Instead, they must work. They must do something useful with their own hands. Then they will have something to give to people in need.

Command the rich to do what is good. Tell them to be rich in doing good things. They must give freely. They must be willing to share.

So when we can do good to everyone, let us do it. Let’s try even harder to do good to the family of believers.

We hear that some people among you don’t want to work and are making trouble. They aren’t really busy. Instead, they are bothering others.We belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. So we strongly command people like that to settle down. They have to earn the food they eat.

As Jesus looked up, he saw rich people putting their gifts into the temple offering boxes.He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.“ What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus said.“ That poor widow has put in more than all the others.All these other people gave a lot because they are rich. But even though she is poor, she put in everything. She had nothing left to live on.”

“ Do not steal.

“ Then what should we do?” the crowd asked.John answered,“ Anyone who has extra clothes should share with the one who has none. And anyone who has extra food should do the same.”Even tax collectors came to be baptized.“ Teacher,” they asked,“ what should we do?”“ Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” John told them.Then some soldiers asked him,“ And what should we do?” John replied,“ Don’t force people to give you money. Don’t bring false charges against people. Be happy with your pay.”

Brothers and sisters, here is a command we give you. We give it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep away from every believer who doesn’t want to work and makes trouble. Keep away from any believer who doesn’t live up to the teaching you received from us.You know how you should follow our example. We worked when we were with you.We didn’t eat anyone’s food without paying for it. In fact, it was just the opposite. We worked night and day. We worked very hard so that we wouldn’t cause any expense to any of you.

Money gained in the wrong way disappears. But money gathered little by little grows.

Do you really want to give? Then the gift is measured by what someone has. It is not measured by what they don’t have.

Show me my sins that I’m not aware of. If I’ve done what is wrong, I won’t do it again.’

You yourselves know that I have used my own hands to meet my needs. I have also met the needs of my companions.In everything I did, I showed you that we must work hard and help the weak. We must remember the words of the Lord Jesus. He said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

“ Anyone who kidnaps and sells another person must be put to death. If they still have the person with them when they are caught, they must be put to death.

Neither will thieves or those who always want more and more. Neither will those who are often drunk or tell lies or cheat. People who live like that will not receive God’s kingdom.Some of you used to do those things. But your sins were washed away. You were made holy. You were made right with God. All of this was done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was also done by the Spirit of our God.

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Welcome others into your homes.

If you don’t, I might have too much. Then I might say I don’t know you. I might say,‘ Who is the Lord?’ Or I might become poor and steal. Then I would bring shame to the name of my God.

He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor. He said it because he was a thief. Judas was in charge of the money bag. He used to help himself to what was in it.

He said to me,“ A curse sent by the Lord is written on it. It is going out over the whole land. Every thief will be driven out of the land. That is what it says on one side of the scroll. Everyone who lies when promising to tell the truth will also be driven out. That is what it says on the other side.

Anyone who hides their sins doesn’t succeed. But anyone who admits their sins and gives them up finds mercy.

Judas was in charge of the money. So some of the disciples thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast. Others thought Jesus was talking about giving something to poor people.

All hard work pays off. But if all you do is talk, you will be poor.

But Zacchaeus stood up. He said,“ Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of what I own to those who are poor. And if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay it back. I will pay back four times the amount I took.”

They have suffered a great deal. But in their suffering, their joy was more than full. Even though they were very poor, they gave very freely.

“ Do not want to have anything your neighbor owns. Do not want to have your neighbor’s house, wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey.”

Your gifts meet the needs of the Lord’s people. And that’s not all. Your gifts also cause many people to thank God.You have shown yourselves to be worthy by what you have given. So other people will praise God because you obey him. That proves that you really believe the good news about Christ. They will also praise God because you share freely with them and with everyone else.Their hearts will be filled with love for you when they pray for you. God has given you grace that is better than anything.Let us give thanks to God for his gift. It is so great that no one can tell how wonderful it really is!

People curse one another. They tell lies and commit murder. They steal and commit adultery. They break all my laws. They keep spilling the blood of other people.
