他們心神昏暗，因自己裏面的無知、因心中的頑梗、而跟上帝的生命隔絕。

其心蒙昩、愚頑無知、而棄天主生命之道、

意志虛妄、理智昏昧、冥頑不靈、而自絕於天主之生命。

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

They can’t understand the truth. They are separated from the life of God. That’s because they don’t know him. And they don’t know him because their hearts are stubborn.

They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.

Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him.

因為他們雖然認識上帝，卻不看他為上帝而榮耀他，也不感謝他，反倒在思想上成為虛妄，他們蒙昧的心就昏暗了。他們自稱為有智慧，反而成了愚拙，用那能敗壞的人類、飛鳥、走獸、昆蟲之像的樣式、去代換那不能朽壞的上帝之榮耀。

那時你們在基督以外，跟以色列的公民團契隔絕，在帶應許的諸約上是外人，在世界上是無盼望無上帝的。

因為這人民的心給脂油蒙住了；他們以沉重的耳來聽，又把眼閉着；恐怕他們用眼看見，用耳聽見，用心領悟，回轉過來，讓我醫治他們！」

『主把他們的眼弄瞎了。使他們的心頑梗不化，省得他們用眼看見，用心了悟，回轉過來，而我醫治他們！』（

不用私慾的邪情、像那些不認識上帝的外國人那樣。

你們呢、你們素來在心神上因邪惡的行為被隔絕而做仇敵的、

在他們、今世的神已把不信之人的心意弄瞎了，以致基督（上帝的像）榮耀之福音之光照不能發曉於他們心裏。

變節的人哪！豈不知與世界為友、就是與上帝為敵麼？所以凡想要做世界朋友的，就把自己立為上帝之仇敵了。

弟兄們，我不願意你們不明白這奧祕，免得你們自以為精明。這奧祕就是：以色列有幾分的頑梗，直等到外國人的滿數都進了來，

他們怎樣在認識上帝選擇了「無上帝」，上帝就怎樣把他們放給不上選的心思，去行不該行的事；

無奈他們的心意卻成了頑梗不化的。直到今天的日子，在宣讀《舊約》的時候、同樣的帕子還是存在着、沒有揭去；因為只有在基督裏那才被消滅掉。

因為肉體的意念跟上帝為敵，不順服於上帝之律法，也實在不能順服：在肉體裏生活的人總不能使上帝喜歡。

但從前你們不認識上帝的時候，是給那些本性不是神的做奴僕。

這樣，無知的時候、上帝不加細察，如今卻囑咐各處的人都要悔改。

要看那些和你立約的人；地上黑暗之處都滿了強暴的居所。

耶穌氣忿忿地周圍看着他們，因了他們心之頑梗而惻然憂愁，就對那人說：『伸出手來。』他一伸，他的手就復了原。

本着上帝的智慧、世人既沒有憑着智慧認識上帝，上帝就樂意藉着宣傳之話的愚拙、來救信的人。

『你們將誰來跟我相比，而比得上呢？使他跟我相似，而真地彼此一樣呢？那從錢袋中浪費金子，用天秤平銀子的人雇銀匠造神像，自己竟去叩拜，去拜敬！他們將神像抬起，扛在肩頭上，安置在定處，它就站在那裏，總不離開其位置；就使有人向它哀叫，它也不能應，不能救人脫離患難。『你們要懷念這事，而堅定不移，悖逆的人哪，心裏回想吧！

你既深信自己是瞎子的領路人，是暗中人的光，

但他心高氣傲，剛愎自用，就從他的國位上黜落下來，他的尊榮就被褫奪。

我要從這人民中、從外國人中、選拔你，差遣你到他們那裏、去開他們的眼，使他們從黑暗中轉到光中，從撒但的權下轉向上帝，使他們獲得罪赦，又得業分、在因信我而成聖別的人中間。」

外國人的偶像是銀的或金的，是人的手所作的。他們有口、卻不能說話；有眼、卻不能看；有耳、卻不能聽；有鼻、卻不能聞；有手、卻不能摸；有腳、卻不能走路；也不能用喉嚨出聲。造它們的、正和它們一樣；凡倚靠它們的、正如它們一般。

他們不知道，也不明白，因為他們的眼被塗抹了，以致不能看見，他們的心蒙蔽了，以致不能了解。沒有一個人心裏回悟過來，也沒有一個有知識有聰明能夠說：「木頭的一半我已經燒在火中，我也曾在其炭火上烤過餅，烤過肉喫；難道其剩下的我還要作一座可厭惡之像！我還要向樹木頭叩拜！」嘿，以爐灰為食的人！被愚弄的心使他偏行了；他不能援救自己，也不能說：『莫非我右手中有虛假？』
