A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

I am fully convinced, my dear brothers and sisters, that you are full of goodness. You know these things so well you can teach each other all about them.

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.

And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.

With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.

We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry.

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him,

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

And I am sure that when I come, Christ will richly bless our time together.

Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example.For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

So look at Apollos and me as mere servants of Christ who have been put in charge of explaining God’s mysteries.Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful.

Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you.

I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church.

And say to Archippus,“ Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.”

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.

“ So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock— his church, purchased with his own blood— over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.

We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

Judas was one of us and shared in the ministry with us.”

We are glad to seem weak if it helps show that you are actually strong. We pray that you will become mature.

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith.And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.

Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?

For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus— the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.
