The one who came down is the same one who went up. He went up higher than all the heavens. He did it in order to fill all creation.

He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.

That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf.

I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things take place.

After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.

For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ,

that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else— not only in this world but also in the world to come.God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

He also came so that the Gentiles might give glory to God for his mercies to them. That is what the psalmist meant when he wrote:“ For this, I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing praises to your name.”And in another place it is written,“ Rejoice with his people, you Gentiles.”And yet again,“ Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles. Praise him, all you people of the earth.”And in another place Isaiah said,“ The heir to David’s throne will come, and he will rule over the Gentiles. They will place their hope on him.”I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“ And now we are here to bring you this Good News. The promise was made to our ancestors,and God has now fulfilled it for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. This is what the second psalm says about Jesus:‘ You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.’

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time.But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him.

“ Men of Galilee,” they said,“ why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

So they said,“ Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says,“ They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.” So that is what they did.

But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah— that he must suffer these things.

Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven.

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

Then he said,“ When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.

These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say,“ Not one of his bones will be broken,”

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said,“ I am thirsty.”

Concerning the Gentiles, God says in the prophecy of Hosea,“ Those who were not my people, I will now call my people. And I will love those whom I did not love before.”And,“ Then, at the place where they were told,‘ You are not my people,’ there they will be called‘ children of the living God.’”And concerning Israel, Isaiah the prophet cried out,“ Though the people of Israel are as numerous as the sand of the seashore, only a remnant will be saved.For the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth quickly and with finality.”And Isaiah said the same thing in another place:“ If the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had not spared a few of our children, we would have been wiped out like Sodom, destroyed like Gomorrah.”What does all this mean? Even though the Gentiles were not trying to follow God’s standards, they were made right with God. And it was by faith that this took place.
