All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

At one time we all lived among them. Our desires were controlled by sin. We tried to satisfy what they wanted us to do. We followed our desires and thoughts. God was angry with us like he was with everyone else. That’s because of the kind of people we all were.

All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires.

I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity,idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance— as I told you before— that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the lower heavens, the spirit now working in the disobedient.

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires that war against you.

Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality,no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

We who are Jews by birth and not“ Gentile sinners”know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. And we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified.

Indeed, I was guilty when I was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me.

If we say,“ We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say,“ We don’t have any sin,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer walk as the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their thoughts.They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them and because of the hardness of their hearts.They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more and more.

in order to live the remaining time in the flesh, no longer for human desires, but for God’s will.For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the pagans choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.

For everything that belongs to the world— the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s lifestyle— is not from the Father, but is from the world.

For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so.Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires.

When the Lord saw that man’s wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every scheme his mind thought of was nothing but evil all the time,

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it.

Therefore, dear friends, since we have such promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, completing our sanctification in the fear of God.

For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it?

— that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction.For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

You are of your father the Devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of liars.

but the worries of this age, the seduction of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?If God puts no trust in His holy ones and the heavens are not pure in His sight,how much less one who is revolting and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?

And what if God, desiring to display His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience objects of wrath ready for destruction?

These people are discontented grumblers, walking according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.But you, dear friends, remember what was predicted by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;they told you,“ In the end time there will be scoffers walking according to their own ungodly desires.”

As you once disobeyed God, but now have received mercy through their disobedience,

We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.

But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.

Who can produce something pure from what is impure? No one!

For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.

In past generations He allowed all the nations to go their own way,

When the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, He said to Himself,“ I will never again curse the ground because of man, even though man’s inclination is evil from his youth. And I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.

we have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from Your commands and ordinances.We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, fathers, and all the people of the land.Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel— those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where You have dispersed them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward You.Lord, public shame belongs to us, our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against Him

What then? Are we any better? Not at all! For we have previously charged that both Jews and Gentiles are all under sin,as it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one.There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.All have turned away; all alike have become useless. There is no one who does what is good, not even one.Their throat is an open grave; they deceive with their tongues. Vipers’ venom is under their lips.Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.Their feet are swift to shed blood;ruin and wretchedness are in their paths,and the path of peace they have not known.There is no fear of God before their eyes.Now we know that whatever the law says speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.

who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.

What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you?You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask.You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.

How can a person be justified before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

“ Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent,because He has set a day when He is going to judge the world in righteousness by the Man He has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”

There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.This man came to Him at night and said,“ Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher, for no one could perform these signs You do unless God were with him.”Jesus replied,“ I assure you: Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”“ But how can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked Him.“ Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?”Jesus answered,“ I assure you: Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit.

For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, promiscuity, stinginess, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

Yet I am writing you a new command, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

They have eyes full of adultery and are always looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.In fact, sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not charged to a person’s account when there is no law.Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s transgression. He is a prototype of the Coming One.But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift overflowed to the many by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ.And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification.Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is life-giving justification for everyone.For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin’s power, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.

Adam was 130 years old when he fathered a son in his likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.

All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.No one calls on Your name, striving to take hold of You. For You have hidden Your face from us and made us melt because of our iniquity.
