All share a common destiny— the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.

Everyone will die someday. Death comes to godly and sinful people alike. It comes to good and bad people alike. It comes to“ clean” and“ unclean” people alike. Those who offer sacrifices and those who don’t offer them also die. A good person dies, and so does a sinner. Those who make promises die. So do those who are afraid to make them.

It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.

The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.

當斯時也、義與不義者、事上帝與不事上帝者、爾將轉而分辨之、

智者明於目、愚者行於暗、我知其終、所遇一也、我心自謂、愚者所遭、我亦將遭之、我雖多智、有何益哉、我心自謂、斯亦虛空、智者愚者、永不見憶、蓋至來日、皆必遺忘、噫、智者之死、曷同於愚者哉、

事皆一致、故曰完人惡人、俱為上帝所滅、

我必蒞臨、行鞫於爾、凡巫覡及淫亂妄誓、負傭值、欺孤寡、屈賓旅、而不畏我者、我必亟證之、萬軍之耶和華言之矣、

我見惡人利達、因嫉狂傲之人兮、

二人曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而無咎、我儕至斯土時、爾須以此絳繩、繫於縋我之牖、集爾父母兄弟、及父全家、入於此室、凡出爾門、入衢遇害、血歸其首、我則無辜、惟偕居爾家者、有人害之、血歸我首、如洩我事、則爾使我所發之誓、與我無與、

有事可為、持此為美、彼亦勿舍、寅畏上帝者、必脫於諸難、○

罪人作惡百次、而享遐齡、然我深知寅畏上帝者、必獲福祉、惟彼惡者、不獲福祉、不享遐齡、其日如影、以其不畏上帝也、世有虛空之事、有義人所遭、依惡人所作、有惡人所遇、依義人所為、我謂斯亦虛空、

彼所悅者、錫以智慧、知識歡樂、惟以憂勞加於罪人、使其所收所積、歸於上帝所悅者、斯亦虛空、乃為捕風、

入居喪之家、愈於入筵宴之家、蓋死為眾人之終、生者必心藏之、

彼曰、此乃呪詛、遍行斯土、凡盜竊者、必按卷此面之文而見絕、凡妄誓者、必按卷彼面之文而見絕、萬軍之耶和華曰、我出此卷、使入盜賊之室、與指我名而妄誓者之室、恆處其中、而毀滅之、爰及木石、○

惡人何以生存、享壽、勢力烜赫、目睹子孫與之偕立、後嗣在其目前、其家平康、無所畏懼、上帝之杖、不加其身、牡牛孳息、靡有斷絕、牝牛產犢、亦不墮胎、孩童出則成羣、子女舞蹈、和琴鼓而謳歌、聽簫聲而歡樂、度日亨通、俄頃下於陰府、若輩對上帝曰、爾其去我、我不願知爾道、全能者誰、致我事之、祈之有何益乎、然其福非在己手、惡人所謀、我乃遠之、其燈見滅、其禍猝來、上帝赫怒、加以困苦、彼若飄於風前之草芥、狂飇吹散之粃糠、何嘗有是事哉、爾曰、上帝積其惡、罰其嗣、然何不報於其身、使自知之、俾目睹其敗亡、親飲全能者之忿怒、其月數既盡、奚慮其家室、上帝既鞫居高者、有人能以知識教之乎、有人至死、身軀壯健、無不平康安逸、胸鬲脂充、骸骨髓潤、又有至死、心懷困苦、未嘗享福、要皆偃臥土中、為蛆所覆、我知爾意、與爾所以枉我之謀、爾曰、霸者之室家安在、惡人之居幕奚存、爾未詢行路之人乎、不知其引證乎、即惡人於患難之日獲免、在震怒之時得脫、彼之所行、孰面語之、彼之所作、誰能報之、雖然、至終被舁於墓、人守其陵、彼以幽谷之塊為甘、先之往者無數、從其後者甚繁、如是、爾之應答既謬、何為徒慰我乎、

蓋王子既握手立約、乃藐誓爽約、必不能免難、主耶和華曰、我指己生而誓、彼藐我誓、爽我約、我必以此罪歸於其首、

指天地之上帝耶和華而誓、我居迦南人中、勿娶其女、為我子婦、

其人生存、雖歷千年而倍之、未嘗享福、其終非同歸一所乎、

我儕則謂狂傲者有福、行惡者建立、試上帝而獲免、

設女不欲從爾、則此誓與爾無與、惟不可挈我子返於故鄉、僕遂置手於其主亞伯拉罕髀下、如命而誓、○

民於林見蜜滴瀝、無以手取食者、畏誓言也、
