And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

我自言曰、智慧雖愈於勇力、貧者之智慧仍被人藐忽、不聽其言、

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.

So I said,“ It’s better to be wise than to be powerful.” But people look down on the poor man’s wisdom. No one pays any attention to what he says.

But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long.

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are ignored.

Then I said:“ Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

Then said I, Wisdom[ is] better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom[ is] despised, and his words are not heard.

So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, but a poor man’s wisdom is despised; no one ever listens to his advice.

Then I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

Wisdom makes the wise person stronger than ten rulers of a city.

A wise warrior is better than a strong one, and a man of knowledge than one of strength;

A wise person went up against a city of warriors and brought down its secure fortress.

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished.“ Where did this man get these things?” they said.“ What is this wisdom that has been given to him, and how are these miracles performed by his hands?Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they were offended by him.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much good.

The wealth of the rich is his fortified city; the poverty of the poor is their destruction.

Then the Pharisees responded to them,“ Are you fooled too?Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?But this crowd, which doesn’t know the law, is accursed.”

Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world— what is viewed as nothing— to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,so that no one may boast in his presence.

So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him,“ Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”He answered,“ Whether or not he’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!”Then they asked him,“ What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”“ I already told you,” he said,“ and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t want to become his disciples too, do you?”They ridiculed him:“ You’re that man’s disciple, but we’re Moses’s disciples.We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man— we don’t know where he’s from.”“ This is an amazing thing!” the man told them.“ You don’t know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does his will, he listens to him.Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind.If this man were not from God, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.”“ You were born entirely in sin,” they replied,“ and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.

For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in,if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say,“ Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor person,“ Stand over there,” or“ Sit here on the floor by my footstool,”haven’t you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?Yet you have dishonored the poor. Don’t the rich oppress you and drag you into court?
