譬彼水族羽族、猝罹網羅、人遘飛殃、出於莫測者亦若是。

Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.

No one knows when trouble will come to them. Fish are caught in nets. Birds are taken in traps. And people are trapped by hard times that come when they don’t expect them.

For man does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.

People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.

For certainly no one knows his time: like fish caught in a cruel net or like birds caught in a trap, so people are trapped in an evil time as it suddenly falls on them.

For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them.

For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

By wrongdoing an evil person is ensnared, But the righteous sings and rejoices.

While they are saying,“ Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

One who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper time and procedure.For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a person’s trouble is heavy upon him.If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?

“ But be on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap;for it will come upon all those who live on the face of all the earth.But stay alert at all times, praying that you will have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

“ But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of mankind among them are fully given to do evil.

You indeed put them on slippery ground; You dropped them into ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.

Why have You made people like the fish of the sea, Like crawling things that have no ruler over them?The Chaldeans bring all of them up with a hook, Drag them away with their net, And gather them together in their fishing net. Therefore they rejoice and are joyful.Therefore they offer a sacrifice to their net And burn incense to their fishing net, Because through these things their catch is large, And their food is plentiful.Will they therefore empty their net, And continually slay nations without sparing?

And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man:people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, and they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, and they were building;but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.On that day, the one who will be on the housetop, with his goods in the house, must not go down to take them out; and likewise the one in the field must not turn back.

Suddenly he follows her As an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as one walks in ankle bracelets to the discipline of a fool,Until an arrow pierces through his liver; As a bird hurries to the snare, So he does not know that it will cost him his life.

Therefore his disaster will come suddenly; Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.

He will rain coals of fire upon the wicked, And brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup.

saying,“ If you had known on this day, even you, the conditions for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.For the days will come upon you when your enemies will put up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side,and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’

Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God on the day of visitation.

For he is thrown into the net by his own feet, And he steps on the webbing.A snare seizes him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him.A noose for him is hidden in the ground, And a trap for him on the pathway.

Therefore this wrongdoing will be to you Like a breach about to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant,

But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, using abusive speech where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed,

for He says,“ At a favorable time I listened to you, And on a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is“ a favorable time,” behold, now is“ a day of salvation”—

and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
