我又转念：见日光之下，快跑的未必能赢；力战的未必得胜；智慧的未必得粮食；明哲的未必得资财；灵巧的未必得喜悦。所临到众人的是在乎当时的机会。

我又看见在日光之下，跑得快的未必得奖，勇士未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，精明的未必致富，博学的未必得人赏识，因为时机和际遇左右众人。

我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。

我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

耶和华如此说：“智慧人不要因他的智慧夸口，勇士不要因他的力气夸口，财主也不要因他的财富夸口；

没有人能以智慧、聪明、谋略抵挡耶和华。马是为打仗之日预备的；得胜却在于耶和华。

若非主发命令，谁能说了就成呢？是祸，是福，不都出于至高者的口吗？

他将卑微的人安置在高处，将哀痛的人举到稳妥之地。他破坏通达人的计谋，使他们手所做的不得成就。他使有智慧的人中了自己的诡计，叫狡诈人的计谋速速落空。他们白昼遇见黑暗，午间摸索如在夜间。

快跑的无从避难，壮士无法使力，勇士也不能自救；拿弓的站立不住，腿快的不能逃脱，骑马的也不能自救。到那日，勇士中最有胆量的，必赤身逃跑。”这是耶和华说的。

我心里说：“上帝必审判义人和恶人，因为在那里，各样事务，一切工作，都有定时。”

他说：“犹大众人、耶路撒冷的居民和约沙法王啊，你们要留心听，耶和华对你们如此说：‘不要因这大军恐惧惊惶，因为胜败不在乎你们，而是在乎上帝。

我知道上帝所做的都必存到永远；无所增添，无所减少。上帝这样做，是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。

不要容快跑的逃避，也不要容勇士逃脱；在北方幼发拉底河边，他们绊跌仆倒。

君王不能因兵多得胜，勇士不能因力大得救。靠马得救是枉然的，马也不能因力大救人。

他不喜悦马的力大，不喜爱人的腿快。耶和华喜爱敬畏他和盼望他慈爱的人。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人却在黑暗里行。但我知道他们都有相同的遭遇。我心里就说：“愚昧人所遇见的，我也一样遇见，那么我何必更有智慧呢？”我心里说：“这也是虚空。”

我见人因彼此嫉妒而有一切的劳碌和各样工作的成就，这也是虚空，也是捕风。

亚希多弗见他的计谋不被接纳，就备上驴，动身归回本城，到了自己的家。他留下遗嘱给他的家，就上吊死了，葬在他父亲的坟墓里。

押沙龙和以色列众人都说：“亚基人户筛的计谋比亚希多弗的更好！”这是因为耶和华定意破坏亚希多弗的良谋，为的是耶和华要降祸给押沙龙。

我转而观看日光之下所发生的一切欺压之事。看哪，受欺压的流泪，无人安慰；欺压他们的有权势，也无人安慰。

我转而回顾智慧、狂妄和愚昧。在王以后来的人又如何呢？不过做先前所做的就是了。

不要夸口说骄傲的话，也不要口出狂妄的言语，因耶和华是有知识的上帝，人的行为被他衡量。勇士的弓折断，跌倒的人以力量束腰。饱足的人作雇工求食；饥饿的人也不再饥饿。不生育的生了七个；儿女多的反倒孤独。耶和华使人死，也使人活，使人下阴间，也使人往上升。耶和华使人贫穷，也使人富足；使人降卑，也使人升高。他从灰尘里抬举贫寒人，从粪堆中提拔贫穷人，使他们与贵族同坐，继承荣耀的座位。地的柱子属耶和华，他将世界立在其上。“他必保护他圣民的脚步，但恶人却在黑暗中毁灭，因为人不是靠力量得胜。与耶和华相争的，必被打碎；他必从天上打雷攻击他们。耶和华审判地极的人，将力量赐给所立的王，高举受膏者的角。”

我们也在他里面得了基业；这原是那位随己意行万事的上帝照着自己的旨意所预定的，

所以，骄傲如链子戴在他们项上，残暴像衣裳覆盖在他们身上。他们的眼睛因体胖而凸出，他们的内心放任不羁。

你要记得耶和华—你的上帝，因为得财富的能力是他给你的，为要坚守他向你列祖起誓所立的约，像今日一样。

你要观看上帝的作为，谁能使他所弯曲的变直呢？

那时你们必再一次看出义人和恶人，事奉上帝和不事奉上帝的人有何差别。”

他安静，谁能定罪呢？他转脸，谁能见他呢？无论一国或一人都是如此。

地上所有的居民都算为虚无；在天上万军和地上居民中，他都凭自己的旨意行事。无人能拦住他的手，或问他说，你在做什么呢？

在那里有洗鲁雅的三个儿子：约押、亚比筛、亚撒黑。亚撒黑的脚快如野地里的羚羊；亚撒黑追赶押尼珥，直追赶他不偏左右。押尼珥回头说：“亚撒黑，是你吗？”他说：“是我。”押尼珥对他说：“你转左或转右，去抓一个年轻人，剥去他的战衣吧。”亚撒黑却不肯转开而不追赶他。押尼珥又对亚撒黑说：“转开，不要再追我了！我何必把你击杀在地上呢？我若杀了你，怎么有脸见你哥哥约押呢？”亚撒黑仍不肯转开，押尼珥就用回马枪刺入他的肚腹，甚至枪从背后穿出，亚撒黑就仆倒在那里，当场死了。众人赶到亚撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。

这样，大卫用机弦和石子胜了那非利士人，击中了他，把他杀死；大卫手中没有刀。
