I thought about all these things. I realized that those who are wise and do what is right are under God’s control. What they do is also under his control. But no one knows whether they will be loved or hated.

凡此諸事、我決志詳察之、則知義者與智者、及其作為、咸在上帝之手、或蒙愛、或見惡、人不之知、悉在其前、

我竭吾心思、詳察百事、知義人智人之所為、咸歸上帝治理、惟觀其人之所值、而上帝之眷顧與否、仍難逆料。

我專心觀此諸事、究此諸事、知善人與智人及其作為、皆為天主所掌、或愛或惡、人無所能知、因諸事盡屬未來、或愛或惡人無所能知因諸事盡屬未來或作或愛或惡與諸未來之事人無所能知

So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God’s hands, but no one knows whether love or hate awaits them.

But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him.

This, too, I carefully explored: Even though the actions of godly and wise people are in God’s hands, no one knows whether God will show them favor.

Indeed, I took all this to heart and explained it all: The righteous, the wise, and their works are in God’s hands. People don’t know whether to expect love or hate. Everything lies ahead of them.

For I have taken all this to my heart, even to examine it all, that righteous people, wise people, and their deeds are in the hand of God. People do not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits them.

For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.

For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it be love or hatred, man knoweth it not; all is before them.

Indeed, I took all this to heart and explained it all: the righteous, the wise, and their works are in God’s hands. People don’t know whether to expect love or hate. Everything lies ahead of them.

For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works,[ are] in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred[ by] all[ that is] before them.

So I reflected on all this, attempting to clear it all up. I concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their works, are in the hand of God; whether a person will be loved or hated– no one knows what lies ahead.

For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn’t know it; all is before them.

Lord, I’m sure you love your people. All the holy ones are in your hands. At your feet all of them bow down. And you teach them.

He holds the life of every creature in his hand. He controls the breath of every human being.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me.I give them eternal life, and they will never die. No one will steal them out of my hand.My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than anyone. No one can steal them out of my Father’s hand.I and the Father are one.”

I used my mind to understand what it really means to be wise. I wanted to observe the hard work people do on earth. They don’t close their eyes and go to sleep day or night.

Then the king said to Zadok,“ Take the ark of God back into the city. If the Lord is pleased with me, he’ll bring me back. He’ll let me see the ark again. He’ll also let me see Jerusalem again. That’s the place where he lives.But suppose he says,‘ I am not pleased with you.’ Then I accept that. Let him do to me what he thinks is best.”

That’s why I’m suffering the way I am. But this gives me no reason to be ashamed. That’s because I know who I have believed in. I am sure he is able to take care of what I have given him. I can trust him with it until the day he returns as judge.

Lord, you give us peace. You are the one who has done everything we’ve accomplished.

People who live on the islands, listen to me. Pay attention, you nations far away. Before I was born the Lord chose me to serve him. Before I was born the Lord spoke my name.He made my words like a sharp sword. He hid me in the palm of his hand. He made me into a sharpened arrow. He took good care of me and kept me safe.He said to me,“ You are my true servant Israel. I will show my glory through you.”But I said,“ In spite of my hard work, I feel as if I haven’t accomplished anything. I’ve used up all my strength. It seems as if everything I’ve done is worthless. But the Lord will give me what I should receive. My God will reward me.”

Through faith you are kept safe by God’s power. Your salvation is going to be completed. It is ready to be shown to you in the last days.

But now we call proud people blessed. Things go well with those who do what is evil. And God doesn’t even punish those who test him.’ ”Those who had respect for the Lord talked with one another. And the Lord heard them. A list of people and what they did was written in a book in front of him. It included the names of those who respected the Lord and honored him.“ The day is coming when I will judge,” says the Lord who rules over all.“ On that day they will be my special treasure. I will spare them just as a father loves and spares his son who serves him.Then once again you will see the difference between godly people and sinful people. And you will see the difference between those who serve me and those who do not.

“ If I were you, I’d make my appeal to God. I’d bring my case to be judged by him.

Commit to the Lord everything you do. Then he will make your plans succeed.

Then I used my mind to understand what it really means to be wise. And I wanted to know what foolish pleasure is all about. But I found out that it’s also like chasing the wind.

I saw that proud and sinful people were doing well. And I began to long for what they had.

God, you see the problems of people in trouble. You take note of their pain. You do something about it. So those who are attacked place themselves in your care. You help children whose fathers have died.

Today I have made you like a city that has a high wall around it. I have made you like an iron pillar and a bronze wall. Now you can stand up against the whole land. You can stand against the kings and officials of Judah. You can stand against its priests and its people.They will fight against you. But they will not win the battle over you. I am with you. I will save you,” announces the Lord.

They say,“ How would God know what we’re doing? Does the Most High God know anything?”Here is what sinful people are like. They don’t have a care in the world. They keep getting richer and richer.It seems as if I have kept my heart pure for no reason. It didn’t do me any good to wash my hands to show that I wasn’t guilty of doing anything wrong.

In my meaningless life here’s what I’ve seen. I’ve seen godly people dying even though they are godly. And I’ve seen sinful people living a long time even though they are sinful.

After all, what is Apollos? And what is Paul? We are only people who serve. We helped you to believe. The Lord has given each of us our own work to do.I planted the seed. Apollos watered it. But God has been making it grow.So the one who plants is not important. The one who waters is not important. It is God who makes things grow. He is the important one.The one who plants and the one who waters have the same purpose. The Lord will give each of them a reward for their work.We work together to serve God. You are like God’s field. You are like his building.God has given me the grace to lay a foundation as a wise builder. Now someone else is building on it. But each one should build carefully.No one can lay any other foundation than what has already been laid. That foundation is Jesus Christ.A person may build on it using gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw.But each person’s work will be shown for what it is. On judgment day it will be brought to light. It will be put through fire. The fire will test how good each person’s work is.If the building doesn’t burn up, God will give the builder a reward for the work.If the building burns up, the builder will lose everything. The builder will be saved, but only like one escaping through the flames.

Commit your life to the Lord. Here is what he will do if you trust in him.He will make the reward for your godly life shine like the dawn. He will make the proof of your honest life shine like the sun at noon.

Into your hands I commit my very life. Lord, set me free. You are my faithful God.

He guards the paths of his faithful servants. But evil people will lie silent in their dark graves.“ People don’t win just because they are strong.

So I tried to understand wisdom more completely. I wanted to study it and figure it out. I tried to find out everything I could about it. I tried to understand why it’s foolish to be evil. I wanted to see why choosing foolishness is so unwise.

The Teacher was wise. He gave knowledge to people. He tried out many proverbs. He thought about them carefully. Then he wrote them down in order.He did his best to find just the right words. And what he wrote was honest and true.

They talk too much. No one knows what lies ahead. Who can tell someone else what will happen after they are gone?
