天下事可為長太息者、有時義人遭難、幾同惡人、惡人蒙休、有類義人、我則曰、此屬於虛。

世上有一件虚空的事，就是义人所遭遇的，反照恶人所行的；又有恶人所遭遇的，反照义人所行的。我说，这也是虚空。

There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

There is a futility that is done on the earth: there are righteous people who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked people who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.

There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

我處塵凡、鑒觀事理、見有為義而早夭者、見有作惡而壽終者。

智者明目、愚人行暗、及其終也、何異之有。

我見驕者福祉駢臻、惡者昌盛無比、雖試上帝、亦得免於患難、

為惡之人、得保生命、而享遐齡、席豐履厚、

我觀惡人、反居顯要、不禁生艷羨之心兮、

我竭吾心思、詳察百事、知義人智人之所為、咸歸上帝治理、惟觀其人之所值、而上帝之眷顧與否、仍難逆料。萬民所遭、初無或異、義不義、潔不潔、祭不祭、善不善、妄誓不妄誓者、億兆亦同此賦畀。事有深可嘆息者、人生於世、心懷惡而行猖狂、終歸死地。

為惡之人、作事恆得亨通、財貨偏能殷富兮、我潔予心、濯余手、豈不徒勞兮。終日罹災害、清晨逢譴責兮。

有人塊然獨處、無兄弟子女、不與友朋交接、然亦勞苦不已、雖得貨財、不以為足、不敢自用、不知遺誰、此屬於虛、更貽後患。

第惡人之燈見滅、其禍猝來、主赫怒加以困苦、果何時哉。彼若飛蓬、轉於空際、彼若糠秕、散於颶風、又在何時、我未之見也。爾曰、上帝降殃、罰及其嗣、我以為何不使其身受之、俾目擊禍患之至、親膺全能者之震怒。若生命既絕、家庭之事、已不及知矣。矜高之人、為上帝所鞫、其間孰能贊一詞乎。斯世之人、或至死、豐盛平康、得享綏安。胸膈脂充、百骸髓滿。或至死、困苦盈懷、終不享福、要皆長眠黃土、蚯蚓盤其上。我知爾狡、欲以口給禦人。爾曰、霸者之殿安在、惡人之宅烏存。何不詢諸行路之人、以其言為據、其言曰、為惡之人、亦蒙矜憫、死之日友朋送喪。彼之所行、孰敢斥之、誰能報之。群送之墓、謹守其陵。封植甚美、前呵後衛者、不可勝計。爾之慰藉無益、爾之言語差謬。

當惡人存日、無子者遭其虐遇、無夫者受其摧折。有能之人、不能與爭、其動也、人之軀命難保。上帝雖鑒察之、彼仍綏康、安於厥居。勃然而興、不久逝世、與眾無異、譬諸田禾、既稔而刈。如曰不然、試與我辨、指我言之剌謬。

天下事可長太息者、我嘗見之矣、長者所行不善、使愚者坐高位、智者居末座、

耶利米曰、耶和華與、吾訴於爾前、爾惟公是秉。即以爾行事論之、作惡者享通、逆理者平康、誠何故哉。

我觀世人、勞而得功、同人媢嫉、此亦捕風捉影而已。

以我觀之、善惡同歸於盡。人忽死亡、主使之然、無辜受難、主不之憫、當今之世、惡人當路、良吏韜晦、使之者非主而誰。
