天下事可為長太息者、有時義人遭難、幾同惡人、惡人蒙休、有類義人、我則曰、此屬於虛。

世間更有一患事、即有善人遭惡人所當遭者、有惡人遇善人所當遇者、我則曰、此亦屬於虛、

There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

There is a futility that is done on the earth: there are righteous people who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked people who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.

There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

在虛度的日子裏，我見過各樣的事情，義人在他的義中滅亡，惡人在他的惡中倒享長壽。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人卻在黑暗裏行。但我知道他們都有相同的遭遇。

現在，我們稱狂傲的人為有福，並且行惡的人得以建立；他們雖然試探上帝，卻得以逃脫。」

惡人為何存活，得享高壽，勢力強盛呢？

因為我嫉妒狂傲的人，我看見惡人享平安。

我將這一切事放在心上，詳細研究這些，就知道義人和智慧人，並他們的作為都在上帝手中；或是愛，或是恨，都在他們面前，但人不能知道。凡臨到眾人的際遇都一樣：義人和惡人，好人，潔淨的人和不潔淨的人，獻祭的和不獻祭的，都一樣。好人如何，罪人也如何；起誓的如何，怕起誓的也如何。在日光之下發生的一切事中有一件禍患，就是眾人的際遇都一樣，並且世人的心充滿了惡；活着的時候心裏狂妄，後來就歸死人那裏去了。

看哪，這就是惡人，他們常享安逸，財寶增多。我實在徒然潔淨了我的心，徒然洗手表明我的無辜，因為我終日遭災難，每日早晨受懲治。

有人孤單無雙，無子無兄弟，竟勞碌不息，眼目也不以財富為滿足。他說：「我勞碌，自己卻不享福，到底是為了誰呢？」這也是虛空，是極沉重的擔子。

「惡人的燈何嘗熄滅？患難何嘗臨到他們呢？上帝何嘗發怒，把災禍分給他們呢？他們何嘗像風前的碎稭，如暴風颳去的糠粃呢？上帝為惡人的兒女積蓄罪孽，不如本人遭報，好使他親自知道。願他親眼看見自己敗亡，親自飲全能者的憤怒。他的歲月既盡，他身後還顧他的家嗎？誰能將知識教導上帝呢？是他審判那些居高位的。有人至死身體強壯，盡得平順安逸；他的肚腹充滿奶汁，他的骨髓滋潤。有人至死心中痛苦，從未嘗過福樂的滋味；他們同樣躺臥於塵土，蟲子覆蓋他們。「看哪，我知道你們的意念，並殘害我的計謀。你們說：『權貴的房屋在哪裏？惡人住過的帳棚在哪裏？』你們沒有詢問那些過路的人嗎？你們不承認他們的證據嗎？就是惡人在患難的日子得存留，在憤怒的日子得逃脫。他所行的，有誰當面給他說明？他所做的，有誰報應他呢？然而他要被抬到墳地，並有人看守墓穴。他要以谷中的土塊為甘甜；人人要跟在他後面，在他前面去的無數。你們怎能以空話安慰我呢？你們的對答全都錯謬！」

「他與不懷孕不生育的婦人交往，卻不善待寡婦。然而上帝用能力保全有勢力的人；那性命難保的人仍然興起。上帝使他安穩，他就有所倚靠；上帝的眼目看顧他們的道路。他們高升，不過片刻就沒有了；他們降為卑，被除滅，與眾人一樣，又如穀的穗子被割下。若不是這樣，誰能指證我是說謊的，以我的言語為毫無根據呢？」

我見日光之下有一件禍患，似乎出於統治者的錯誤，

耶和華啊，我與你爭辯的時候，你總是顯為義；但有一件，我還要與你理論：惡人的道路為何亨通呢？大行詭詐的為何得安逸呢？

我見人因彼此嫉妒而有一切的勞碌和各樣工作的成就，這也是虛空，也是捕風。

所以我說，都是一樣；完全人和惡人，他都滅絕。若災禍忽然帶來死亡，他必戲笑無辜人的苦難。世界交在惡人手中；他蒙蔽世界審判官的臉，若不是他，那麼是誰呢？
