愚人的笑聲像鍋底下燒荊棘的噼啪聲。這也是虛空。

愚昧人的笑聲，就像鍋底下荊棘的爆聲一樣。這也是虛空。

鍋底下荊棘的爆裂聲怎麼樣，愚頑人的笑聲也怎麼樣：這也是虛空。

因為愚昧人的笑聲，好像熱鍋下面荊棘的爆聲。這也是虛空！

愚者之笑、猶釜底焚荊棘之聲、斯亦虛空、

愚人之笑、如荊棘、為爨火所焚、莫非捕風也。

愚者之笑聲、猶荊棘焚於釜下之聲、此亦屬於虛、

Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.

A foolish person’s laughter is like the crackling of thorns burning under a pot. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fools; this also is vanity.

A fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless.

for like the crackling of burning thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This too is futile.

Before your pots can feel the thorns, He will take them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike.

I said of laughter, It is mad; and of mirth, What doeth it?

suffering wrong as the hire of wrong- doing; men that count it pleasure to revel in the day- time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you;having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; enticing unstedfast souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing;forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong- doing;but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man’s voice and stayed the madness of the prophet.These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved.

These are they who are hidden rocks in your love- feasts when they feast with you, shepherds that without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved for ever.

If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man, Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

Woe unto you, ye that are full now! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you, ye that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
