When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother in law lying sick in bed with a fever.And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him.Now when evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill.

Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her and said to her,“ Do not go on weeping.”

Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw that Mary had gotten up quickly and left, they followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there.So when Mary came to the place where Jesus was, she saw Him and fell at His feet, saying to Him,“ Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”Therefore when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled,and He said,“ Where have you laid him?” They* said to Him,“ Lord, come and see.”Jesus wept.

So the king said to me,“ Why is your face sad, though you are not ill? This is nothing but sadness of heart.” Then I was very much afraid.And I said to the king,“ May the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad when the city, the site of my fathers’ tombs, is desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire?”Then the king said to me,“ What would you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.Then I said to the king,“ If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, I request that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.”

They went out at noon, while Ben hadad was drinking himself drunk in the temporary shelters with the thirty two kings who were helping him.

Now when he had brought him down, behold, they were dispersed over all the land, eating and drinking and celebrating because of all the great plunder that they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

An opportune day came when Herod, on his birthday, held a banquet for his nobles and military commanders, and the leading people of Galilee;and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl,“ Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”And he swore to her,“ Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom.”And she went out and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask for?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist.”Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying,“ I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”And although the king was very sorry, because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her.Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and beheaded him in the prison,and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.When his disciples heard about this, they came and carried away his body, and laid it in a tomb.

They* came to the house of the synagogue official, and He* saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.And after entering, He* said to them,“ Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child has not died, but is asleep.”And they began laughing at Him. But putting them all outside, He* took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and* entered the room where the child was in bed.And taking the child by the hand, He* said to her,“ Talitha, kum!”( which translated means,“ Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).And immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astonished.And He gave them strict orders that no one was to know about this, and He told them to have something given her to eat.

Then Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was having a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was cheerful within him, for he was very drunk; so she did not tell him anything at all until the morning light.

On the day of our king, the officials became sick with the heat of wine; He stretched out his hand with scoffers,

Then Absalom commanded his servants, saying,“ See now, when Amnon’s heart is cheerful with wine, and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon,’ then put him to death. Do not fear; have I not commanded you myself? Be courageous and be valiant.”

“ I will make her leaders and her wise men drunk, Her governors, her officials, and her warriors, So that they will sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake up,” Declares the King, whose name is the Lord of armies.

My mind reels, horror overwhelms me; The twilight I longed for has been turned into trembling for me.

That same night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.

Belshazzar the king held a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in the presence of the thousand.While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave orders to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines could drink out of them.Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God which was in Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank out of them.They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone.

When they become heated up, I will serve them their banquet And make them drunk, so that they may rejoice in triumph, And may sleep a perpetual sleep And not wake up,” declares the Lord.

He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore, And our pains that He carried; Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted, Struck down by God, and humiliated.

Like tangled thorns, And like those who are drunken with their drink, They are consumed Like stubble completely dried up.
