目睹勝於心戀、然皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、○

Better what the eye sees than the roving of the appetite. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Being satisfied with what you have is better than always wanting more. That doesn’t have any meaning either. It’s like chasing the wind.

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the appetite: this also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Better what the eyes see than wandering desire. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

我見日下所為之事、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

水蛭有二女、每呼曰予予、永無饜者有三、謂不足者有四、即陰府之所、不妊之胎、滲水未足之地、燃燒不止之火、○

我知世人畢生懽愉行善、無愈於此、人式食式飲、享福於操作、亦上帝所賜也、

有人焉、上帝賜之資財、富有尊榮、致其心之所欲、一無所缺、惟上帝使不得享、而他人享之、斯為虛空、亦為劇病、

我所見為善為美者、人在上帝所賜有生之期、飲食而享於日下勞而得者、此乃其值也、

步履離道、心從我目、污沾我手、

我見人因勞力、及諸巧工、為鄰所嫉、斯亦虛空、乃為捕風、

人於日下身勞心煩、何所得耶、畢生憂戚、所勞皆為愁苦、夜不心安、斯亦虛空、○人式食式飲、享福於操作、無善於此、依我觀之、亦由上帝手也、

我觀我手所作諸工、及勞力之操作、乃知悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、於日下無所裨益、○

傳道者曰、虛空之虛空、虛空之虛空、萬事虛空、

維爾少者、幼時其欣喜、中心懽忭、行爾心所欲、視爾目所悅、惟當知上帝必為此諸事鞫爾、

昔爾折爾軛、斷爾繩、曰、我不順服、乃於諸高岡之上、各綠樹之下、屈身行淫、
