When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look at them?

As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

As more and more goods are made, more and more people use them up. So how can those goods benefit their owners? All they can do is look at them with desire.

When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth— except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!

Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents.And the land could not support both of them while living together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.

Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and he gave him sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

Moreover, there were at my table 150 Jews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations that were around us.Now that which was prepared for each day was one ox and six choice sheep; also birds were prepared for me, and every ten days all sorts of wine were provided in abundance. Yet for all this I did not request the governor’s food allowance, because the forced labor was heavy on this people.

Now Abram was very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.

What the eyes see is better than what the soul desires. This too is futility and striving after wind.

Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to dishonest gain.Turn my eyes away from looking at what is worthless, And revive me in Your ways.

When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.

Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things.

Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal,ten fat oxen, twenty pasture fed oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened geese.
