As more and more goods are made, more and more people use them up. So how can those goods benefit their owners? All they can do is look at them with desire.

And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

Moreover[ there were] at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that[ are] about us.Now[ that] which was prepared[ for me] daily[ was] one ox[ and] six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.

And Abram[ was] very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

Better[ is] the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this[ is] also vanity and vexation of spirit.

Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity;[ and] quicken thou me in thy way.

And Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl.

[ As] the partridge sitteth[ on eggs], and hatcheth[ them] not;[ so] he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
