And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew[ it] not.And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful[ is] this place! this[ is] none other but the house of God, and this[ is] the gate of heaven.

What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise[ you] not.

Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

Who[ is there] even among you that would shut the doors[ for nought]? neither do ye kindle[ fire] on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name[ shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense[ shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name[ shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

Then Moses said unto Aaron, This[ is it] that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.And Samuel said, Hath the LORD[ as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey[ is] better than sacrifice,[ and] to hearken than the fat of rams.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to[ his] destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings,[ to have been] continually before me.I will take no bullock out of thy house,[ nor] he goats out of thy folds.For every beast of the forest[ is] mine,[ and] the cattle upon a thousand hills.I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field[ are] mine.If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world[ is] mine, and the fulness thereof.Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or[ that] thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
