有人塊然獨處、無兄弟子女、不與友朋交接、然亦勞苦不已、雖得貨財、不以為足、不敢自用、不知遺誰、此屬於虛、更貽後患。

有人獨處無子、無兄弟、然亦勞碌不已、雖得多財、目中不以為足、亦不自問曰、我不自享所得、我勞碌究為誰耶、此亦屬於虛、徒勞無益、

There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.“ For whom am I toiling,” he asked,“ and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business!

A man lived all by himself. He didn’t have any sons or brothers. His hard work never ended. But he wasn’t happy with what he had.“ Who am I working so hard for?” he asked.“ Why don’t I get the things I enjoy?” That doesn’t have any meaning either. In fact, it’s a very bad deal!

one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks,“ For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself,“ Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

陰間和滅亡永不滿足；人的眼目也是如此。

因為，凡世界上的事，就像肉體的情慾、眼目的情慾，並今生的驕傲，都不是從父來的，乃是從世界來的。

萬事令人厭煩，人不能說盡。眼看，看不飽；耳聽，聽不足。

我專心用智慧尋求、查究天下所做的一切事，乃知神叫世人所經練的是極重的勞苦。

神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

兩個人總比一個人好，因為二人勞碌同得美好的果效。若是跌倒，這人可以扶起他的同伴；若是孤身跌倒，沒有別人扶起他來，這人就有禍了。再者，二人同睡就都暖和，一人獨睡怎能暖和呢？有人攻勝孤身一人，若有二人便能敵擋他；三股合成的繩子不容易折斷。

禍哉！那些以房接房，以地連地，以致不留餘地的，只顧自己獨居境內。

世人行動實係幻影。他們忙亂，真是枉然；積蓄財寶，不知將來有誰收取。

貪愛銀子的，不因得銀子知足；貪愛豐富的，也不因得利益知足。這也是虛空。

耶和華神說：「那人獨居不好，我要為他造一個配偶幫助他。」

你們為何花錢買那不足為食物的？用勞碌得來的買那不使人飽足的呢？你們要留意聽我的話就能吃那美物，得享肥甘，心中喜樂。

亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我既無子，你還賜我甚麼呢？並且要承受我家業的是大馬士革人以利以謝。」亞伯蘭又說：「你沒有給我兒子；那生在我家中的人就是我的後嗣。」

因為他日日憂慮，他的勞苦成為愁煩，連夜間心也不安。這也是虛空。

凡勞苦擔重擔的人可以到我這裏來，我就使你們得安息。

誰心裏也不醒悟，也沒有知識，沒有聰明，能說：「我曾拿一分在火中燒了，在炭火上烤過餅；我也烤過肉吃。這剩下的，我豈要做可憎的物嗎？我豈可向木墩子叩拜呢？」他以灰為食，心中昏迷，使他偏邪，他不能自救，也不能說：「我右手中豈不是有虛謊嗎？」

與耶和華聯合的外邦人不要說：耶和華必定將我從他民中分別出來。太監也不要說：我是枯樹。因為耶和華如此說：那些謹守我的安息日，揀選我所喜悅的事，持守我約的太監，我必使他們在我殿中，在我牆內，有記念，有名號，比有兒女的更美。我必賜他們永遠的名，不能剪除。

迦勒底人因酒詭詐，狂傲，不住在家中，擴充心欲，好像陰間。他如死不能知足，聚集萬國，堆積萬民都歸自己。這些國的民豈不都要提起詩歌並俗語譏刺他說：禍哉！迦勒底人，你增添不屬自己的財物，多多取人的當頭，要到幾時為止呢？咬傷你的豈不忽然起來，擾害你的豈不興起，你就作他們的擄物嗎？因你搶奪許多的國，殺人流血，向國內的城並城中一切居民施行強暴，所以各國剩下的民都必搶奪你。為本家積蓄不義之財、在高處搭窩、指望免災的有禍了！
