又思未生於斯世者、未見斯人之穢行、較生而復死者、尤為幸甚。

Yet, better than both is he who has never existed, Who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

yea, better than them both did I esteem him that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

日至、人必曰、未妊之婦、未產之胎、未哺之乳福矣、

人有百子、又獲遐齡、生不能享福、死不得善葬、以我觀之、胎未成人者、較彼愈美。未成之胎、來以虛、去以暗、其名不存、未睹日光、未知世事、較彼慳吝、又獲平康。

當日妊婦乳婦、其有禍乎、

是日母氏育我、致遭艱苦、毋寧墮胎而死、即不然、誕而身死氣絕。

爾胡為生我、何不遄死、勿令人見、則我雖有若無、出胎入墓。

天下之事、我已灼見、無非捕風捉影。

余竊有言、願得羽翮、如彼飛鴿、將翱將翔、安居自得兮、余必遠遊、處於曠野、今予罹害、如遇狂飆、予將速避兮。敵人在城、強暴相爭、予求上主、翦滅是行、撓亂其謀、使之弗成兮、維彼晝夜、巡行邑垣、中有強悍、殘害人民、逵衢之間、恆有惡黨、或行詭譎、或尚詐偽。

我民詭詐行淫、我欲去之、願遜於荒、得託足之所。耶和華曰、彼民逞舌妄言、若援弓發矢、言雖不誠、偏能得志、作惡無已、不識我道。

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我在母胎、曷弗見殺、曷弗使母恆妊、曷弗以胎為墓、我何生於世、受苦罹憂、畢生愧赧、
