且以未生之人、未睹日下所作之惡者、較斯二者為尤愈也、○

并且我以为那未曾生的，就是未见过日光之下恶事的，比这两等人更强。

但那尚未出生，就是未曾见过日光之下所发生之恶事的，比这两种人更幸福。

又思未生於斯世者、未見斯人之穢行、較生而復死者、尤為幸甚。

較此二者、未生於世、未見日下所作之惡事者更為幸、○

Yet, better than both is he who has never existed, Who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

yea, better than them both did I esteem him that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

But better than either of them is the one who has not yet existed, who has not seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.

蓋日將至、人必曰、未妊者、未產者、未哺乳者、福矣、

人苟生百子、享壽高、歷年久、而心不得享福、身不獲安葬、我謂未盈期而生者、較彼尤愈、以其虛而來、暗而去、厥名掩於幽暗、未睹日光、無有知覺、較為安泰也、

當此之時、妊婦乳婦其有禍乎、

因其不閉我母胎之門、不掩我目前之難、我何不墮胎而死、何不甫產而亡、胡為膝接我、乳哺我、非然者、則已宴然而臥、安然而寢、與為己重建邱墟之君相同在、或與有金、以銀充室之侯伯相偕、或如未滿期之胎、未見光之嬰、

尋獲塚墓、則喜樂不勝、

胡為出我於胎、莫若氣絕、無目見我、則我雖有若無、出胎即舁於墓、

我見日下所為之事、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

我則曰、惟願有翼如鳩、飛去而得安居兮、我必遠遊、棲於曠野、速詣避所、脫於烈風暴雨兮、主歟、我在邑中、見有強暴紛爭、尚其施行翦滅、變亂其舌兮、彼在城上、晝夜遶行、中有罪孽邪慝兮、奸惡在於其中、暴虐詭譎、不離其衢兮、

願我於野得有旅邸、則可離我民而去、以彼俱為淫亂之徒、詭詐之黨、彼彎舌如弓、以發誑言、在國中為強大、而不行信實、行惡有加無已、而不我識、耶和華言之矣、

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

因其未戮我於母胎、使母為我墓、其胎恆大、我何為出胎、受苦罹憂、畢生蒙恥、
