蓋彼出獄而為王、今雖得國、生時則貧也、或作彼出自獄中為王此雖生時為王後反為貧民

The young man might have come from prison to become king. Or he might have been born poor within the kingdom but still became king.

For he went from prison to the throne, though in his own kingdom he had been born poor.

Such a youth could rise from poverty and succeed. He might even become king, though he has been in prison.

For he came from prison to be king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom.

for he has come out of prison to become king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom.

So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh.

The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap;he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people.

During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he turned against Nebuchadnezzar and rebelled.The Lord sent Babylonian, Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite raiders against him to destroy Judah, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by his servants the prophets.

They killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put out his eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.

In the thirty- seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel- Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty- seventh day of the twelfth month.He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.

Jehoiakim rested with his ancestors. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

“ And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt.Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food.This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.”The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials.So Pharaoh asked them,“ Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”So Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him,“ Make way!” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.”

Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven,“ This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.

The Lord’s anointed, our very life breath, was caught in their traps. We thought that under his shadow we would live among the nations.

Jehoahaz was twenty- three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done.Pharaoh Necho put him in chains at Riblah in the land of Hamath so that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, and there he died.

Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered to him. In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner.

He carried off the treasures of the temple of the Lord and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including all the gold shields Solomon had made.So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
