Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

One person could be overpowered. But two people can stand up for themselves. And a rope made out of three cords isn’t easily broken.

And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him— a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back to back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple braided cord is not easily broken.

And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.

他的榮譽比那“三十勇士”高，不過，卻不及“三勇士”。大衛立他作侍衛長。

洗魯雅的兒子約押的兄弟亞比篩是三十勇士（按照《馬索拉文本》，“三十勇士”作“三勇士”；現參照其他文本和《敘利亞譯本》翻譯）的首領。他曾揮舞矛槍殺死了三百人，因此他與“三勇士”齊名。他的榮譽比那“三十勇士”高（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他的榮譽比那‘三十勇士’高”作“他不是在‘三勇士’中最尊貴嗎﹖”；現參照《敘利亞譯本》翻譯），所以成為他們的領袖；不過，卻不及“三勇士”。

那三個勇士就闖過非利士人的營地，從伯利恆城門旁邊的井裡打水，把水取上來，帶到大衛那裡。大衛不肯喝，卻把水澆奠在耶和華面前。
