If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

若傾跌、則互相扶持、若孤身而跌、可歎無人援之起、

If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

Suppose either of them falls down. Then the one can help the other one up. But suppose a person falls down and doesn’t have anyone to help them up. Then feel sorry for that person!

For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.Say to those with fearful hearts,“ Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

So encourage each other with these words.

One day Cain suggested to his brother,“ Let’s go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.

When the period of mourning was over, David sent for her and brought her to the palace, and she became one of his wives. Then she gave birth to a son. But the Lord was displeased with what David had done.

So Aaron said,“ Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”All the people took the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron.Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed,“ O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

“ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

My two sons had a fight out in the field. And since no one was there to stop it, one of them was killed.

“ In the past you have encouraged many people; you have strengthened those who were weak.Your words have supported those who were falling; you encouraged those with shaky knees.

Jonathan went to find David and encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in God.

But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision.As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others,“ Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?

Finally, he turned to Aaron and demanded,“ What did these people do to you to make you bring such terrible sin upon them?”

I feared that the furious anger of the Lord, which turned him against you, would drive him to destroy you. But again he listened to me.The Lord was so angry with Aaron that he wanted to destroy him, too. But I prayed for Aaron, and the Lord spared him.

Then Nathan said to David,“ You are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul.I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more.Why, then, have you despised the word of the Lord and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.From this time on, your family will live by the sword because you have despised me by taking Uriah’s wife to be your own.“ This is what the Lord says: Because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view.You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.”Then David confessed to Nathan,“ I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied,“ Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin.Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the word of the Lord by doing this, your child will die.”
