for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up!

若一人傾跌、則一人為之扶持、獨居而蹶、援手無人、豈不難哉。

若傾跌、則互相扶持、若孤身而跌、可歎無人援之起、

If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

Suppose either of them falls down. Then the one can help the other one up. But suppose a person falls down and doesn’t have anyone to help them up. Then feel sorry for that person!

For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Strengthen the exhausted, and make the feeble strong.Say to those with anxious heart,“ Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The retribution of God will come, But He will save you.”

Brothers and sisters, even if a person is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you are not tempted as well.

Therefore, comfort one another with these words.

“ Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to sift you men like wheat;but I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail; and you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

And your servant had two sons, but the two of them fought in the field, and there was no one to save them from each other, so one struck the other and killed him.

Behold, you have taught many, And you have strengthened weak hands.Your words have helped the stumbling to stand, And you have strengthened feeble knees.

And Jonathan, Saul’s son, set out and went to David at Horesh, and encouraged him in God.

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.For prior to the coming of some men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and separate himself, fearing those from the circumcision.The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all,“ If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?

Then Moses said to Aaron,“ What did this people do to you, that you have brought such a great sin upon them?”

For I was afraid of the anger and the rage with which the Lord was angry with you so as to destroy you; but the Lord listened to me that time as well.The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time.

Nathan then said to David,“ You yourself are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ It is I who anointed you as king over Israel, and it is I who rescued you from the hand of Saul.I also gave you your master’s house and put your master’s wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these!Why have you despised the word of the Lord, by doing evil in His sight? You have struck and killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, you have taken his wife as your wife, and you have slaughtered him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.Now then, the sword shall never leave your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’This is what the Lord says:‘ Behold, I am going to raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.Indeed, you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and in open daylight.’ ”Then David said to Nathan,“ I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David,“ The Lord also has allowed your sin to pass; you shall not die.However, since by this deed you have shown utter disrespect for the Lord, the child himself who is born to you shall certainly die.”
