I said in my heart,“ As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.

我心里说，这乃为世人的缘故，是神要试验他们，使他们觉得自己不过像兽一样。

我心里说：“为世人的缘故，上帝考验他们，让他们看见自己不过像走兽一样。”

我又想：“至于世人，上帝试验他们，是要他们知道自己与兽类无异。

我自己心里说：“至于世人，神要试验他们，使他们看见自己与牲畜无异。

至于世人，我心里说：“神在考验他们，要让他们看见自己像兽类一样”；

我心裏說，這乃為世人的緣故，是神要試驗他們，使他們覺得自己不過像獸一樣。

我心裏說：「為世人的緣故，上帝考驗他們，讓他們看見自己不過像走獸一樣。」

言及世人、我心自謂、上帝欲試之、使知其與獸無異、

又思世人行事、上帝察之、欲人知異於禽獸者幾希。

我又自思曰、世事如是乃緣人之故、蓋天主欲以試人、使人知人與獸無異、

I also said to myself,“ As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.

I also said to myself,“ God tests human beings. He does this so they can see that in certain ways they are like animals.

I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

I also thought about the human condition— how God proves to people that they are like animals.

I said to myself,“ This happens so that God may test the children of Adam and they may see for themselves that they are like animals.”

I said to myself regarding the sons of mankind,“ God is testing them in order for them to see that they are as animals, they to themselves.”

I said in my heart,“ Concerning the condition of the sons of men, God tests them, that they may see that they themselves are like animals.”

I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

I said to myself,“ This happens concerning people, so that God may test them and they may see for themselves that they are like animals.”

I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

I also thought to myself,“ It is for the sake of people, so God can clearly show them that they are like animals.

I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.

Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment,

To Adam he said,“ Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying,‘ You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”

and that he might make known the riches of his glory on vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory,

he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light.A man who has riches without understanding, is like the animals that perish.

You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass.In the morning it sprouts and springs up. By evening, it is withered and dry.For we are consumed in your anger. We are troubled in your wrath.You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.Who knows the power of your anger, your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Against you, and you only, I have sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight, so you may be proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge.

But these, as unreasoning creatures, born natural animals to be taken and destroyed, speaking evil in matters about which they are ignorant, will in their destroying surely be destroyed,

“ Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.He grows up like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t continue.Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.

Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.

how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water!

They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion.

Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written,“ that you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment.”

But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish.

For,“ All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;
