I also said to myself,“ God tests human beings. He does this so they can see that in certain ways they are like animals.

I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

I also thought about the human condition— how God proves to people that they are like animals.

I said to myself,“ This happens so that God may test the children of Adam and they may see for themselves that they are like animals.”

I said to myself regarding the sons of mankind,“ God is testing them in order for them to see that they are as animals, they to themselves.”

I said in my heart,“ Concerning the condition of the sons of men, God tests them, that they may see that they themselves are like animals.”

I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

I said to myself,“ This happens concerning people, so that God may test them and they may see for themselves that they are like animals.”

I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

I also thought to myself,“ It is for the sake of people, so God can clearly show them that they are like animals.

I said in my heart,“ As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.

I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

To Adam he said,“ Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you,‘ You must not eat from it,’“ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory—

they will join those who have gone before them, who will never again see the light of life.People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.

Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning:In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered.We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.

But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.

“ Mortals, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble.They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure.Do you fix your eye on them? Will you bring them before you for judgment?Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!

Surely you place them on slippery ground; you cast them down to ruin.How suddenly are they destroyed, completely swept away by terrors!

how much less mortals, who are vile and corrupt, who drink up evil like water!

They are like sheep and are destined to die; death will be their shepherd( but the upright will prevail over them in the morning). Their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions.

“ Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?

Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written:“ So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”

People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.

For,“ All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
