And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him.

I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God— who does not lie— promised them before the world began.

“ Why don’t you talk to me?” Pilate demanded.“ Don’t you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?”Then Jesus said,“ You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

But even though a person sins a hundred times and still lives a long time, I know that those who fear God will be better off.The wicked will not prosper, for they do not fear God. Their days will never grow long like the evening shadows.

“ After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him,‘ What do you mean by doing these things?’

He will repay his enemies for their evil deeds. His fury will fall on his foes. He will pay them back even to the ends of the earth.In the west, people will respect the name of the Lord; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the Lord.

Pay attention to these instructions, for anyone who fears God will avoid both extremes.

Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.

Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said,“ I am thirsty.”A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips.When Jesus had tasted it, he said,“ It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath( and a very special Sabbath, because it was Passover week). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down.So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus.But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs.One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.( This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe.)These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say,“ Not one of his bones will be broken,”and“ They will look on the one they pierced.”

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

“ Now then, I will reveal the truth to you. Three more Persian kings will reign, to be succeeded by a fourth, far richer than the others. He will use his wealth to stir up everyone to fight against the kingdom of Greece.“ Then a mighty king will rise to power who will rule with great authority and accomplish everything he sets out to do.But at the height of his power, his kingdom will be broken apart and divided into four parts. It will not be ruled by the king’s descendants, nor will the kingdom hold the authority it once had. For his empire will be uprooted and given to others.

After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him— for he is proud and arrogant.He boasts,“ By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull.I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.”But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?

Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does.

Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon.

Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.

But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord.

The goat became very powerful. But at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off. In the large horn’s place grew four prominent horns pointing in the four directions of the earth.

Do not add to his words, or he may rebuke you and expose you as a liar.

You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.

This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”
