I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly— my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives.

I tried cheering myself up by drinking wine. I even tried living in a foolish way. But wisdom was still guiding my mind. I wanted to see what was good for people to do on earth during their short lives.

I searched with my heart how to cheer my body with wine— my heart still guiding me with wisdom— and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the children of man to do under heaven during the few days of their life.

After much thought, I decided to cheer myself with wine. And while still seeking wisdom, I clutched at foolishness. In this way, I tried to experience the only happiness most people find during their brief life in this world.

I explored with my mind the pull of wine on my body— my mind still guiding me with wisdom— and how to grasp folly, until I could see what is good for people to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.

酒能使人褻慢，濃酒能使人喧嚷；凡因酒而搖搖晃晃的都沒有智慧。

我專心一志要明白智慧，要明白狂妄、和愚昧，就知道這也是捕風。

言論的終結：一切都聽見了。上帝你要敬畏；他的誡命你要遵守：這就是人的一切。

在人虛幻的一生小小數目的日子裏、他度過去如影兒，誰知道甚麼是對於人一生中有好處啊？誰能告訴人在日光之下他身後會有甚麼事呢？

人莫如喫喝，且在勞碌中讓自已經驗經驗享樂；我看這也是出於上帝的手。

我們的日子都在你的震怒中過去；我們度盡了歲月、像歎了一口氣。這其中、我們的年日是七十歲；若是強壯，可到八十歲；但其中所矜誇的、不過是勞苦愁煩迅速地過去，我們也飛沒了。誰曉得你怒氣之權勢，誰看明你震怒之威力呢？求你指教我們怎樣數算自己的日子，好增進智慧之心。

誰發出「哦！」？誰發唉聲呢？誰有紛爭？誰有哀歎？誰無緣無故地受傷？誰眼目發昏得紅赤呢？就是那流流連連於酒，常去試試調和之酒的人呢！酒發紅、酒在杯中閃爍、你可別看；它儘管滑溜溜直下你喉嚨，終久就會如蛇咬你，如毒蛇刺你。你的眼必看見怪異的事；你的心必發出乖張的話；你必好像躺在海中心，好似臥在桅桿頂上；你必說：『人擊打我，我卻沒有受傷；人笞打我，我竟不覺得；我幾時清醒，仍要再去尋酒。』

亞比該到了拿八那裏，見他在家裏擺設筵席、如同王的筵席；拿八心裏自感高興，大醉極了；小事大事亞比該全都沒有告訴他、直等到次日早晨天亮的時候。

只要人死了、能再活，那儘我勞役的日子、我就要等候，等到輪着我免役時來到。

頂好要掌握着這個；那個也不要鬆手；因為敬畏上帝的人必須把兩樣都掌握得對。

雅各對法老說：『我寄居在世的年日已有一百三十歲：我一生的年日又少又苦，趕不上我祖宗寄居在世的日子一生的年日。』

我知道世人莫如時常歡喜、一生享樂；並且人人喫喝，在他一切的勞碌中經驗經驗享樂，這也是上帝的恩賜。

我心裏轉來轉去要知道、要窺探、要尋求智慧和萬事的總和，要知道邪惡是愚頑，愚昧是狂妄。

『一個人不能做兩個主人的奴僕；因為他若不是厭惡這一個而愛那一個，就是會依附這一個而不顧那一個：你們不能又做上帝的奴僕，又做錢財的奴僕。

基督對彼列怎能和諧呢？信的同不信的有甚麼共同分兒？上帝的殿堂同偶像怎能符合呢？我們呢、就是永活上帝的殿堂。正如上帝所說的：『我要在他們裏面居住；我要在他們中間往來；我要做他們的上帝；他們必做我的子民。』所以『主說：你們要從他們中間出來，自己分別出來；不潔淨之物別接觸了；我就收納你們』；
