I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.

Yes, better than them both is him who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

I made myself great works. I built myself houses. I planted myself vineyards.I made myself gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit.I made myself pools of water, to water from it the forest where trees were grown.I bought male servants and female servants, and had servants born in my house. I also had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all who were before me in Jerusalem.I also gathered silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men: musical instruments, and that of all sorts.So I was great, and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also remained with me.

What does man gain from all his labor in which he labors under the sun?

There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.

For I know that after my departure, vicious wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.Men will arise from among your own selves, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

Behold, that which I have seen to be good and proper is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, in which he labors under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; for this is his portion.

Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity, for that is your portion in life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.

“ He said,‘ I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house;for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’

from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the sky. It is a heavy burden that God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
