于是我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所做的事，对我都是悲苦。是的，全是虚空，全是捕风！

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生的事我都以為煩惱，全是虛空，全是捕風。

所以，我憎惡生命，因為在日光之下所做的一切都令我愁煩。唉！這一切都是虛空，都是捕風。

因此我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生的事，都使我厭煩。一切都是虛空，都是捕風。

故此我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生過的事都使我憂苦；因為都是虛空，都是捕風。

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所做的事，對我都是悲苦。是的，全是虛空，全是捕風！

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

So I hated life, because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous unto me; for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

後來，我察看我手所經營的一切事和我勞碌所成的功。誰知都是虛空，都是捕風；在日光之下毫無益處。

耶和華啊，現在求你取我的命吧！因為我死了比活着還好。」

日頭出來的時候，神安排炎熱的東風，日頭曝曬約拿的頭，使他發昏，他就為自己求死，說：「我死了比活着還好！」

甚至我寧肯噎死，寧肯死亡，勝似留我這一身的骨頭。我厭棄性命，不願永活。你任憑我吧，因我的日子都是虛空。

我見日光之下所做的一切事，都是虛空，都是捕風。

惟願你把我藏在陰間，存於隱密處，等你的忿怒過去；願你為我定了日期，記念我。

因此，我讚歎那早已死的死人，勝過那還活着的活人。

眼睛所看的比心裏妄想的倒好。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

你為何使我看見罪孽？你為何看着奸惡而不理呢？毀滅和強暴在我面前，又起了爭端和相鬥的事。

人在日光之下勞碌累心，在他一切的勞碌上得着甚麼呢？

我正在兩難之間，情願離世與基督同在，因為這是好得無比的。然而，我在肉身活着，為你們更是要緊的。我既然這樣深信，就知道仍要住在世間，且與你們眾人同住，使你們在所信的道上又長進又喜樂，

你這樣待我，我若在你眼前蒙恩，求你立時將我殺了，不叫我見自己的苦情。」

願我生的那日受咒詛；願我母親產我的那日不蒙福！給我父親報信說「你得了兒子」，使我父親甚歡喜的，願那人受咒詛。願那人像耶和華所傾覆而不後悔的城邑；願他早晨聽見哀聲，晌午聽見吶喊；因他在我未出胎的時候不殺我，使我母親成了我的墳墓，胎就時常重大。我為何出胎見勞碌愁苦，使我的年日因羞愧消滅呢？

於是靈將我舉起，帶我而去。我心中甚苦，靈性忿激，並且耶和華的靈在我身上大有能力。

我又見日光之下，在審判之處有奸惡，在公義之處也有奸惡。

求你想念我的時候是何等的短少；你創造世人，要使他們歸何等的虛空呢？

受患難的人為何有光賜給他呢？心中愁苦的人為何有生命賜給他呢？他們切望死，卻不得死；求死，勝於求隱藏的珍寶。他們尋見墳墓就快樂，極其歡喜。

自己在曠野走了一日的路程，來到一棵羅騰樹下，就坐在那裏求死，說：「耶和華啊，罷了！求你取我的性命，因為我不勝於我的列祖。」
